I've got a VC force, and use bat swarms quite a bit. There is nothing in the rules about their arc of visibility - my mate and I usually play that they've got 360 visibility, but has anyone got a definitive answer?

Swarms do not always. But many swarms are skirmishers, which DO have 360 LOS.
Aren't Bat Swarms a Unit of Flyers? As described in the rulebook all Units of Flyers (though remember that single flying monsters are NOT Units of Flyers) are skirmishing.

No, they never have 360.
Even if they skirmish, they are classifed as Monsters, due to base size and Unit Strength. Ergo, although they can move around freely, without wheeling etc, they only have a 90 degree arc of charge.

Yes, skirmish swarms have 360 visibility. Bat swarms are flying units and that overrides any other rules. Swarms are units on 40mm bases with multiple wounds. Thats it. All other rules only apply if the unti has them (ie. Unbreakable, Skirmish, Flying, etc). -K
