I just got the new white dwarf through my subscription. Packaged with this issue was a little card that corrects pricing errors explaining how they are ripping you off for more of your hard earned money. On that card it clearly states that the Realm of Battle game board is 200 dollars. However, when I look on the website the board is 290 dollars! Anyone from GW care to explain which price is correct?

When you call the shop, it's 290.

The reason I posted this is because of the new WD I got in the mail today. It clearly states that it is 200 dollars. I understand that WD is packaged weeks in advance, but seriously 100 dollars more than their proposed price?

Hey kid, did you not hear Malfred the first time? It's being throughly discussed here:

And so, due to rising costs of maintaining the Golden Throne, the Emperor's finest accountants spoke to the Demigurg. A deal was forged in blood and extensive paperwork for a sub-prime mortgage with a 5/1 ARM on the Imperial Palace. And lo, in the following years the housing market did tumble and the rate skyrocketed leaving the Emperor's coffers bare. A dark time has begun for the Imperium, the tithes can not keep up with the balloon payments and the Imperial Palace and its contents, including the Golden Throne, have fallen into foreclosure. With an impending auction on the horizon mankind holds its breath as it waits to see who will gain possession of the corpse-god and thus, the fate of humanity......

I'm too poor to pay attention and I was even aware of Malfreds linky.. lol. It always amazes me that people don't take 30 seconds to do a search, or scroll through the posts... lazy internet generation any-damn-ways.

Yeah, no offense t the people who work this site, but the reason more people, especially newbies, don't use the search option is because it's not worth a feth. I try and search for things, and you get plenty of results alright. The matches are crap.

I know that someone is gonna come back with some smart ass comment about "Learn to du a surch, duuud!" Stuff it. I'm expressing an opinion that is fairly shared around this board but doesn't get nearly as much voice as all the people screaming about newbs not doing searches. Holy mackerel people; someone pisses you off enough with a question, don't answer it. You think they are stupid, nudge your scroll wheel and their idiocy gets right off your screen. "oh, but why would I do that when I could take this opportunity to spread more vitriol?" I hear crying about the ignore function being a waste, but I think it works fine. I've used it a few times. Hell, feel free to ignore me. In fact, if I irritate someone, I'd rather you just ignore me. Go ahead, the buttons right there. Just do it.

For all the newbs reading this; use this board for what it's worth to you. Contribute, becasue as you get older here you will have somehting worth saying in addition to what you already bring to the table. Someone starts pissing at you? Marvel at them, and truck on as if they'd had broken fingers and never typed.

Nah, actually the food here is quite, QUITE good. All the smoked salmon you can stuff down your neck over on the snacks line. Meals you can enjoy, really good stuff.

I just don't get some of these attitudes. Mystical gak. I can't fathom how some of these posters would react to an editorial section in a newspaper. They must bust a blood vessle every time they see one.

Well, thanks there lil penguin bro. That looks like some really nice terrain, however not at that price. Neat execution, though. I can only hope the materials are as well-chosen for the sake of whomever is actually buying this thing.

IMO, one could probably hit GW with a false advertising claim of some sort.

Except that would never work. I'm not a lawyer, but I do remember from my business law class those are incredibly hard to win.

Indeed, from my memory, false advertising would be if they said that the game board would do something that it really doesn't do. An advertised price isn't considered a contract between the business and a customer it is considered an 'invitation to treat', basically an offer to do business with the customer and come to an agreement on the price. They can say it costs whatever and then when you get to the register and offer it to you at a different price, its up to you to accept or reject that contract.

OK, then it's a form of bait-and-switch.

The US courts have found this to be a form of fraudulent false advertising.

It's not that "only in America" can one sue over anything, it's that "only in America" does one seem to find juries gullible enough to let some of these lawsuits win.

While true, what many fail to remember is that just because you sue someone, doesn't mean you win the case. And if I recall correctly, GW's legal staff is really a bunch of Daemonhosts.

There was probably mention somewhere that prices and other details are 'subject to change'. That is their prerogative and companies do it all the time on a range of products.

It is illegal to take payment when you have no definate product to sell, so money should not be taken for a pre-order until the item is reasonably ready to be dispatched. Though you can take a deposit, but in this case the deposit would be refundable if the contract changed. Anyway, GW didn't take money for the boards and changed the details before it went on sale, or even pre-order as is their right. People may not like it, but GW haven't done anything wrong. Judging by the size of the price change, I imagine GW made a cock up on the marketing somewhere.

Once in a shop they should sell the item at the advertised price. If you get to the counter and it rings through the till higher, you have a right to ask for the advertised price and most shops will do this as a matter of courtesy. GW have done it for me, I bought a box of figures that was marked with a £20 sticker, the member of staff brought it from the stock room because I couldn't find it on the shelves so I certainly wasn't taking advantage. It rang through the till at £25 but he made it £20, though I don't know which was the correct price now.

which a retailer can deny as long as they remove the stock from sale for a period of 24 hours. True most don't but if you start demanding the product at a lower stickered price if there is a mistake your unlikely to get it. Most people don't seem to realise the best way to get what you want to is to be polite.

You asked for someone from GW, you got it.

If you buy the Realm of Battle Gameboard in a store it'll cost you US$275 plus the applicable sales tax in your state.

If you buy the Realm of Battle Gameboard in our online store it'll cost you US$275 plus $15 shipping (hence $290 and explained in the descriptive text) plus any applicable sales taxes.

I hope that helps clear things up.

Cheers

No worries, the recession will cause them to rethink their pricing. You may see price cuts across the board when their sales fall through the floor.
