So since reading that the Codex will allow it, I've been psyched about trying the combo out. Has anyone tried it yet? Is it worth it?

Haven't tried it yet but I ordered the FW Autocannon arms for one. It should be great for popping AV12 skimmers and transports. Twin linked BS4 is something like 90% accuracy so getting 4 hits a turn should be really common. Even though it loses the Dread CCW its still a S6 Walker so can tie up an outflanking unit even if it does get assaulted, something that most fire support unit are weak to.

The odds of a hit are aboot 89%. The odds of hitting four of four shots are aboot 62%.

In games terms you are better off having one assault cannon right arm than a twin linked autocannon.

2 shots reroll miss, S7 Ap4
vs
4 shots, S6 Ap4, rending

Optimally an assault cannon paired with twin linked autocannon would get better than two twin linked autocannon. Admittedly range is less. but 24" is good enough for picking medium targets.

But it would not look anything like as good.

I like autocannon fluffwise, but they seem weak against MEQs which still get their 3+ armour saves

This is silly! Buttons are not how one escapes dungeons! I would smash the button and rain beatings liberally down on the wizard for playing such a trick!

Nice, Venerable. BS5 S7 AP4 Heavy 4 Twin-Linked. Great for chewing up Orks, Eldar, and Tau.

125 pt regular dread with 89% chance of hitting
vs
185 pt ven dread with 97% chance of hitting

So +60 pts for +8% chance of hitting? No thanks.

And everything else will get cover saves. It's not so much about penetrating armor anymore via AP: it's about causing a plethora of wounds - which the twin ac dread can do against anything T5 or lower.

Seems that the AssCan/TL Autocannon Dread is superior at any range 24" and under. Doesn't look nearly as good, though.

I've got two pairs of TL-AC arms. I don't care how good or bad they are, they look ace. Bring two and you can pretent to have a couple of Lootas in your army.

stjohn70:

I was commenting on Mr.Tibbles beautiful Mortis pattern Dreadnought. Incidentally, the 60pts also gets you an improved WS and improved survival. Sure, you pay a premium, but a model like that deserves the best rules.

The "Rifleman" build for a Ven looks too good to resist. Glad others are excited about it too.

I think the lack of Mortis pattern Dreadnoughts in the Codex: Dark Angels let people down and this goes somewhat to letting people enjoy a taste of that Dreadnought pattern.

I've got a Black Reach Dread still on the sprue just waiting to be converted into something like this...

Marines are my third army with Eldar and Guard being the other two. The Quad AC's will be good vs. the Eldar tanks and Guard chimeras.

It's a pity there's no Mortis Assault Cannon, else we could do this version of the Rifleman:

Yeah, for shooty its the way to go. I only wish my Space Wolf Venerable could get the TL AC option for the off arm. I think I'm going to be stuck with AC / ML. Its not too bad because you get the blast template or krack shot and BS 5 does make the single shot a little easier to live with.
