Ok, so this is a different request. This army is going to be going against this list (the 1k one). Basically I'm playing orks, but I got the marines from the AoBR set and I wanna make a list that can give a good fight, so I can have something I can give my non-40k friends to play with when they come over.

I'll just get the sniper box and a HB bit and that's it. Mod the captain, or heck, just a count as. How would it fare? You think it would do ok? Would it be too weak or too strong (both are bad, wanna have fun with me mates) against the ork list?

you really need something like a land raider redeemer in there since he cant hurt it
failing that a unit of devistators with 4 heavy bolters would work well.
landspeeder tornado's would work well, and are fairly cheap.
thunderfire would work pretty well too.

I don't think you quite got it. I need a cheap marine list that can fare well against the specific ork list, without it being a one sided battle for ANY of those lists. The marine list is just a thing a friend will pick up for a quick game, or say, I wanna introduce someone to the game.

- Land Raider? Expensive!
- LS Tornado? $30 and Loota please?
- Thunderfire? $45... U srs? There're Lootas and Kommandos going around.

most things you add to a list tend to add a fair price.

i would just go with one dread and buy some fast attack maybe assult marines other wise it looks good and maybe get a rhino if you can for one of the tac squads.

JD: Well, I'm trying not to go over $30 on a single box unless it's really going to make a difference. What I meant is, yes, I could buy 2 boxes of Assault Squad, but a single Rhino? eh >_>

I was looking more into options and maybe changing some units.

Although the real question is, is that list I wrote gonna get crushed by the ork list?

Deathmachine: yeah, if I take out a dread and the scout squad I could fit 10 assault marines (and a flamer).

ok, breaking budget a little, bt a tac squad or dev squad are allways worth taking.

sniper scouts will work well against lootas (make sure lootas have something else to shoot at though)

or, even a vindicator or whirlwind, both willwork very well.


a solid gunline setupwould favour you, but you will never kill all of the orks beforethey get into combat, best off shooting down units so they become alotless numerous.

a good trick is to shoot a unit of ork boyz untill under 11 models, then hit them with snipers, hope you pin them.

the reason i said rhino is it might be more fun to your friend to have a tank even if its just a rhino. or maybe a razorback

Yes, I came out with the snipers to up the lootas so they leave the dreads alone (if they don't die 1st that is). And the HB is blast so it's nice. $25 I feel is a good investment cuz I'm not really gonna play this army.

Mmmm, Vindicator...

an ironclad is pretty safe aginst lootas for a turn, but anymore and its dead.
just give him some tempting targets.
and a vindi would be amusing when it drops pie plates on the lootas each turn

Alright... devastators are relatively cheap and quite effective.

Get two boxes of devastators and 1 box of tacticals.

You will get enough weapons to outfit two devastator squads...

Skip the sniper box.

Devastator:

7 Marines - 4 Heavy Bolters. 182 points
7 Marines - 4 missile launchers 182 points

Add it to

10 Tacticals - Flamer, Hvy Plasma 175
10 Tacticals - Flamer, Hvy Plasma 175
10 Tacticals - Flamer, Hvy Plasma 175 (I think you get 2 in each dev box...)
