Ok, so I've decided to just go all out and get a paint set. I've used GW colors for years and years and years and I don't mind them at all especially with the new washes and foundation paints I was considering that option. Then again, Vallejo has some nice paints and please correct me if I'm wrong, but all their colors are basically GW colors with a different name and I can get one for $160 as opposed to the $200 GW set. So which do you recommend I get and why?

And so, due to rising costs of maintaining the Golden Throne, the Emperor's finest accountants spoke to the Demigurg. A deal was forged in blood and extensive paperwork for a sub-prime mortgage with a 5/1 ARM on the Imperial Palace. And lo, in the following years the housing market did tumble and the rate skyrocketed leaving the Emperor's coffers bare. A dark time has begun for the Imperium, the tithes can not keep up with the balloon payments and the Imperial Palace and its contents, including the Golden Throne, have fallen into foreclosure. With an impending auction on the horizon mankind holds its breath as it waits to see who will gain possession of the corpse-god and thus, the fate of humanity...... |

Ha, although I can see the coolness factor of the flamer airbrush, I'd rather get one with a compressor for even consistent airflow....

I think you want the new washes. The rest don't matter.

the washes and foundations are really all you need with addition of some specific citadel paints to highlight it's soo unneccesary to buy the whole shebang...

Vallejo has superior consistency to GW, and the "eye dropper" style of bottle means that your paints will last longer with virtually no risk of drying out. The foundation series and the washes put out by GW rock though. Currently, I use all three, and I am realy happy with the results.

While I use GW paints mainly due to a GW store being very nearby, the new washes and foundation paints have really improved the look of what I can do. They have also sped up my painting process with some colors, red being one that is easy now instead of a total pain. The other GW paints you may want are their metallics, I havent seen another brand with particles as fine as the GW ones, which give a really nice look to them.

Well many of my paints are just about gone so it's time to resupply. I've got the funds so I figured I might as well get a set. Nothing in the GW set is needed besides the paints, the rest is just icing on the cake. THat's the other thing I was considering, even with the newer paint pots the GW stuff still dries out faster then the vallejo in the eydroppers...

I find if you kep your pots closed and cleaned properly the paint doesn't really dry out at all...
You only really run into problems when you letpaint build up inside the rim and thus the pot won't close fully.
I still have a lot of the GW screw top pots, and a tonne of the 'pop' top ones, which never (for me at least) have problems drying out.
I'd say stick to GW if you're used to them, but make sure you invest in washes and foundation paints.

If you have the money to blow, go for the whole she-bang. More variety on your palette means a wider range of consistent color without the need for mixing (which makes achieving consistent color from one batch of models to the next more difficult) and what you don't use you can alsways give, trade, or sell to your friends. That being said, I'm asking Father Christmas for the foundation set or this new mega set if it makes it to the US in time.

Reaper Master Series FTW. More tonal variety and available in deep, base, and highlight triads

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money
