I'm going to be giving my friend a force of tyranids. We have used them for some patrols and super small games. I don't have the new codex and I wanted to know what my friend should buy to make the force competitive.
Here are the models I have
3 Tyranid warriors
5 spore mine thingies
3 ripper swarms
about 10 gaunts with guns
about 5 gaunts with poky things
18 gene stealers.
BAM...
So what else does my friend need? Or would it just be cheaper for the both of us to split the AOBR set and give him all the orks.

You have Genestealers so you do not really need a lot of Synapse. Get a Broodlord and a couple Carnies and you are good to go. Zoanathropes are good, so are Hive Tyrants and more Warriors. If you want more Gaunts you are going to have to take Synapse seriously.

Bulk up your gaunts a bit. Just get two more boxed sets and your infantry is good to go. Then get a Broodlord, maybe even a Hive Tyrant. And get a Lictor, ya know, 'mix things up a little

The assault brood boxed set that GW put out is a really good deal for bulking up an army. I think it's still available.

I agree with mollusk. The battleforce is great for bulking out...I have 1 and im going in next week to get another. Though you should still advise your friend to get a tyrant or broodlord. Warriors without a "real" HQ will die fast.
