So I have not been to content with my current Exodite stuff so I have been thinking of making some new things for them.
here is one of my ideas.
I was trying to think of something to use as a fire prism. I settled on using a winged dragon for one so I went to GW's main site to see what they had. the only problem is after looking through them I can tell you that I HATE THE MODELS.
so after a lot of searching I found the new Mcfarlane dragons Specifically the sorcerer ones
here is a link to all of the different dragons http://www.spawn.com/toys/categorytype.aspx?categoryid=6
do you think it would be fine to make the Eldar riding them and use one of them as a fire prism or other assorted tanks if it was just my friends and I playing? if not than why.
they have both the blast capabilities and the hovering so do you see anything objectionable about them other than the fact that they are not GW models?

Other than that I'm most likely going to make cold one riders that count as Shining spears and Pterodactyl riders as guardian jet bikers.
maybe lizard man Carnosaurs as a base for war walkers

the only thing that bothers me is the vehicle damage chart being applied to living creatures
Pictures of the models for those who do not know what they look like

I wouldn't OBJECT to someone using a non GW model (I know plenty people would, especially in a competitive environment) but it does kind of nag me. It kind of goes in the face of everyone who strives to work with the GW models or customize things from scratch.

"Hey did you see my exodite fire prisim? I used half of a carnosar, wings from the Lord of the Rings Nazghoul, and a TON of green stuff, it took me like 2 weeks but I'm happy with the result"

"Oh, well I have one too but I just went to the toy store spent 20 bucks and slapped on a guardian. And it looks 10 times better than yours."

See what I mean? lol

yeah I know what you mean that was one of my concerns. I have thought about a carnsaur but I saw these and they are just sooooooo cool.
do you think I would be better off with one of these and giving it wraithbone armor from tank parts and heavy weapons platforms and making a rider for it or giving the carnosaur wings, a prism cannon and a guardian riding on its back?

Maybe of some help:
http://www.agisn.de/html/codex_exodites.html

For a Fire Prism stand-in I would use the fire prism cannon mounted on a Lizardmen Stegadon model.

if your making a dragon "prism" please dont use the GW dragons, they look like crap
use the one from ultraforge mini's, it looks great, it has a platform on it allready that just needs making a little bigger, and its dirt cheap.

I have seen that before and I think it is really cool but do you think that anyone would complain about it not being a skimmer? if not I might just go with those and some winged carnosaurs

the Ultraforge dragon is an amazing model but I have no way of paying $89 per dragon

As soon as you are using "stand-in" models you are at the mercy of your opponents. ;-)

So it really depends on the guys and gals you are normally playing with.
I used Exodites Dragon riders as jetbikes and none of my gaming buddies had a problem!

The most important thing IMO is theat your conversions are looking so good so that everybody wants to see them on the table.
But as soon as your opponent gets the feeling that you only want to field good units reprensented by cheap toys, you will get problems!

I honestly do not understand the problem...

Don't we have the same problem with every skimmer on a round base?

your paying £30 / $60 for the carnasaur.
and £10 / $20 for the wings.

thats £40 / $80, so not that much more expensive.

just an idea, but if your taking jetbikes you could allways use the new cold ones with wings.
something like the dark pegasus wings would fit well, or maybe even tyranid gargoyle wings at a push.

problem one, my grammer be bad.

second, if a model is shooting at it what counts as front/ side/ rear ........ though after reading the flippin' codex front/side doesn't matter as they are both 12. I am an idiot.

sorry for the minor hijack.

take care and good luck with the conversion, let us see the final product.

I'm using the new Dark Elf Cold Ones as exodite cavalry by replacing the upper body of the knight with guardians.

I have a pair of the cold ones from the old chariot that I'll model a harness to hold the shuri-cannon along with the rider. They'll count as jetbikes and I don't expect to encounter any resistance to them. They're about the same size and fit nicely fluff wise.

I got the idea from Augustus and his Exodite Seer Council. He had pics up HERE, but it looks like they've been taken down. Drop him a PM and see if he can repost them...

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

I have an Exodite prince on a Warhammer Dragon that I played as a Falcon, I will post an image of it tonight, it's not so bad.... (I think, maybe you will like it)

I can put some of my Exodite images back up too.

I don't think anyone would complain about the non-skimmerness of it. Although, I think the dragon conversions here look pretty sweet, so it isn't a big deal either way.

I'm not sure how radical you are allowed to make your conversions for a Rogue Trader Tournament though. Otherwise, even in a pretty competitive environment, everyone will just be too impressed and oogling to tell you that they don't wan to play with your minis. (oh, a GW store won't let you use the McFarlan dragon, but I think that and tournies are the only places that would disallow it).

I ran my Dragons at the Adepticon Team tourney this year as Fire prisms, and didn't have any any complaints about them.

All the best from eastern Berlin, buddy !

(and just to avoid being completely off topic: I have also used Exodite-Cold-One-riders as Shining-Spear stand ins. Couldn`t agree more with Agis` idea to make your model look so good that the opponent just can`t say no......)

I sawed them off the rock and I put a magnet in the chest for a flight stand. They are normally stuck to the rock. FYI, good luck.
