Ok, I've gone over and over The Ork codex and I'm still unsure if a Nob Leading a mob of boys could be given a Big Shoota upgrade, for example -I take a mob of 20 boyz arming them all with shootaz and giving 2 of the boyz Big shootaz,Then upgrade one boyz to a Nob,would he be able to take the Big shoota?
On page 88 of the Ork codex there is a picture of a Nob with a big shoota (however this is not an option for Nobs mobs).
just wondering is this "legal"?

I would tend to say yes, he can, just like the nob could be equipped with a Rokkit.
The wording is: ... one Ork may exchange his slugga or shoota for:...
Since all of the boy, 'Ard Boy, Nob and 'Ard Boy Nob are orks, any of these models may exchange his slugga or shoota for a big shoot or a rokkit launcha.

I suppose you can easily make the argument that he was given the special weapon upgrade prior to being made a Nob. Heck even GW's own FAQ suggests you can do this with the ruling on the Nob with PK in a shoota boy squad...So, really I don't know, good question.

Yes, you can. Previous codices had a rule that said upgrades had to be given to regular squad members and not to upgraded characters, but the Ork book says no such thing.

Ork Codex: ork boyz wrote:
pg.100:
"for every ten orks in the mob, one ork may exchange his slugga or shoota for: big shoota or rokkit launcha"
Now for nobs "one boy may be upgraded to nob"
"he may replace his choppa with one of the following: big choopa or power klaw"
Therefore yes you may give your nob a big shoota or rokkit launcha and a big choopa or power klaw at the same time, that is the RAW and maybe even the RAI
Hope this helps

Probably a good thing to do too.
It makes shoota mobs more shooty as you basically trade a slugga for a shoota and slugga mobs more choppy as you net one more attack in close combat.
|
In one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 6", kill a few guys with his flamer, assault 6", kill two more guys with his bayonet, flee 12", regroup when assaulted, react 6", kill one more guy with his bayonet and then flee another 12".
So in one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 42" and kill more than 5 people. At the same time a Chimera at top speed on a road can move 18"... |

Well, according to the FAQ that is downloadable form the GW website, upgrading the nob and equipping him with certain weaponry is a matter of sequence. In other words, what do you decide to do with that particular member of the mob first?
Ork FAQ wrote:
Q. If a Boyz mob exchange sluggas and choppas with shootas, can a Nob take a power klaw or a big choppa?
A. You may upgrade the Nob to have a big choppa or power klaw before you choose to upgrade the mob to have shootas, in which case the Nob is not affected by the mob’s weapon swap (as he no longer has a choppa to swap), does not receive a shoota and keeps his slugga and power klaw/big choppa instead. He is a lot happier that way!
Given the example above, it is not unthinkable that your 1-in-10 boy can get his big shoota or rokkit loncha, then get his promotion to nob. Not sure that he can then get a power klaw also, since a big shoota is a two-handed weapon.
Anyone else have thoughts on that one?

The answer is: It just some how "feels" right to me,I just can't imagine a Nob in a shoota boyz mob not having the biggest loudest shoota.

It might make a big shoota in a mob slightly more survivable.

There isnt really a downside. I might consider this way to differentiate between the shoota nob (with big shoota and klaw) and the slugga nob (with slugga and klaw).
It laos makes sense for the nob to have the best gun in a shooty unit.

Erm... Sorry. Should have "previewed" the message. Anyway, duly noted for the future and changed here.
About the power klaw... You know, I'm pretty sure the codex says "may exchange slugga and choppa" for shoota. If the boy gets re-equipped with a shoota or a big shoota, or a rokkit loncha, they will not have a choppa to exchange for a big choppa or power klaw. I'm fairly certain you can't have both.

No, it's "slugga OR shoota for: "
1) "one ORK may exchange..."
2) "One Boy may be upgraded to Nob"
Therefore you can upgrade a boy to a Nob. A Nob is still an ork. So the Nob may then exhange his slugga for a BS or Rokkit and also may exchange his choppa for a BC or PK.
