Hey guys, been lurking here for a bit now. And watching all the great stuff here, got me wanting to try my hand at sculpting. But unfortunately can't get GS locally here. But I found the closest is tamiya epoxy putty?
has anyone tried this? is it the same more or less with GS?
thanks!!

gs is kneadite by another name. try looking for that. should be plenty of suppliers. Read the print on the tamiya stuff if its kneadite its the same thing.

There are many types of epoxy two-part putty which can be used for different aspect and methods of sculpting.
If you look upon the internet you will find a number of manufacturers.
Milliput (UK name) is an alternative to Kneadatite/Green Stuff. There are several grades. It is more like clay than plastic when in its sculptable form.

I suggest you go to your local hardware store and ask for epoxy putty, there are many brands and every hardware store I have been too has at least one.
Even target carried it in my area. Epoxy putty usually comes in sticks in the adhesive section and I most commonly see it in tubes on cardboard backed blister there.
They make a variety of putties with different densities and purposes including naval marine repair, pipe and plumming fixer, wood patch, concrete repair and general use, product titles I have seen include:
Quickwood
Quicksteel
Plummers Steel
Quickfix
PC-7
Sometimes it is available in the plumbing section in just the tubes. It is a cheap, really excellent alternative to green stuff because it's a much better value for the money per volume and has a much better hardening strength and shorter cure time.
Be warned however there is a big difference in properties (the naval repair stuff is really tacky and the plummers steel is course and has metal filings in it and magnets will stick to it!) and work time may be an issue for actual sculpting but for base work, gap filling, and structure strength, cost/value epoxy putty beats green stuff every time. It is particularly ideal for squash molding with a 5-15 minute cure time.
Good luck!

remember AAA is from the phillipines, if what hes typed in his location is correct. I doubt they, or uk ones, are going to exist over there.
No doubt they'll be a similar sort of store, but I'd imagine the tamiya stuff he can get hold of is better than that stuff. I mean if you just want stuff for filling you can make sticky tac work for it, sculpting and modeling is a different issue.
Btw, couldnt find anything on the net about the tamiya stuff. I'm sure its good for sculpting as that seems to be it's intended purpose. My only worry would be that tamiya often make stuff for display models rather than gaming ones, i.e. not going to be handled much.

Modelling shops, if there are any left in Swindon. Or maybe Reading.
You can also order stuff on line.

Get it from these guys UK/Philipines/Mars
(Where ever)
http://www.epoxygator.com/
Also really good pics on the site of what I was talking about. They also do the big sticks at a good price!
Also sculpting in this stuff is really easy, you just have to work fast and in small pieces because of cure time.
Good luck

@ corpsesarefun
did you try the plumbing dept of B&Q? green stuff originated from plumbers putty for sealing small cracks in copper pipes. it does set a lot faster than GS though & i would recomend trying to find either GS or procreate (like GS but keeps a sharper edge)

Body filling putty (Plastic Padding) is good for bulk filling, for example, to fill in the bottom of bases, but it's not good for sculpting.

thanks for all the response guyz!!
yes I am from the Philippines, Cebu to be exact and the only place for me to get modelling stuff is from tamiya. the store that sell mini's and stuff only have those pre-painted one (starwars, clix, etc.) I had to order stuff from Manila (the big island).
got an infected wound (but it's ok now, I think..) so wasn't able to do anything. I'll try looking around the hardware stores here for GS.
also can't buy stuff online. got no credit card, but hopefuly when my friend gets one he'll lend it to me.

You could also try Pioneer Aqua epoxy clay. You can get that in your local hardware. I use that for my sculpting and other modification for 40k and it works fine. Like you, we don't have GS here in Bacolod. The only disadvantage is that you have 10 minutes working time, unlike green stuff which you have about 30 minutes working time

I tried turning my ork boy into a nob, got the idea from this article= http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/219475.page
I found the pioneer epoxy hard to work with. I think I need more practice.
so I just used it as a filler for my nob boy.
don't worry im gonna cover his shoulders with armour so my sucky putty work won't show.
Hey Valten, could you show me some pics of your work?

two heads the title is intentional, and once I get the hang of the putty I'll be making a bar for with potty in it for my orcs to hang out in.
