Looked around for a bit today and did not find any solid information on whether or not old space marine vehicles are tournament legal? Does anyone know if they are? I'm mostly concerned with older model kits for predators and rhinos. Can they be used in offical GW and RTT tournaments?

I don't see why not if they are just the old GW models. Tons of people have old school models in GW tournaments.

Such as my entire ultra marines army.

*Edit* I've never had an issues at any of the tournaments I've gone to over the past 10 years.

Why wouldn't they be allowed?

They are official GW models.

Were any of your tournaments GW ones?

My main concern looking at the assembled kits is the size comparison. Older vehicles seem to give you a LoS size advantage, compared to the newer kits.

As long as its a GW model (I mean, my spawn is an ancient goblin spider rider sans goblin, and its really tiny...) and I've never had issues with it. Sure, it raises an eyebrow or two, and quite a few laughs, but it IS a GW model, so you are in the green.

Yup, I've been to GW tournaments and never had a problem with any of my old stuff. Actually, I get more complements on my old school stuff cause it's not common.

It doesn't matter. The rules for the "official" GW run tournaments allow any GW models regardless of age or size difference with current models.

Its fine, they are official GW models.

Yes I've been in a few recently that were GW ones including various GW store tournies. Its perfectly fine because its a GW model. The only acception I have seen is someone made a battle wagon for their orc army that was more of a stompa than anything else. It used two rhinos for feet a land raider as the body. Half a lemun russ as a chain saw arm and the a FW hydra platform as the cockpit/main gun emplacement/head. They allowed it since its made of GW models but it was huge and blocked a lot of LoS.

I'm primarily interested in just making use of the kits and making my armies vehicles look different. Planning to modify and damage the old kits, make them look like that trusty beat up ancient rhino that has been repaired, over and over and over.

I use the RT-era IG models to include eggs-on-legs sentinels at the US GTs, never as problem. I've even got some old Citadel Dr WHo and Chainsaw Warrior models. Others have brought the original Land Raiders and many other OOP models. If it's GW/Citadel, it's legal.

Yep... I love my RT era Furioso that is a quarter the size of a current dread. A decked out current termie can get to be larger than he is, but he is a dread. I also have one of the RT land speeders that is about a quarter the size of a current one. My second RT dread is about a third the size of a current dread... he has the longer legs to see over stuff. Then there is my 2 ed Land speeder which is about half the size of the current ones. Anyone who tells me i cant use those is getting one of them in a sock upside the head since they are conviently also metal, and quite possibly lead.

Generally, I get a kick out of seeing old GW models hit the table, however a buddy of mine uses old school Ork wartrakks (metal ones). Those things are crazy puny. They really look like grots riding mopeds. They are extremely easy to hide and are really the only yesteryear models I've encountered that I'd consider cheesy (legal or not).

I think it would be cool to play with the old GW Dreads for marines, they look horrible.

I still use the old rhino models for my SM, along with dreads and landpeeders. I also have RTB001 plastic SMs and metal RT SM mixed in with my hybrid 2nd eds and plastic 3rd eds.

LOS isn't really an issue - if it can't be seen, it generally also can't shoot. Yes, it's easier to give them a +50% cover save, but it's still an official GW model.

All vehicles have weapons that they currently can have.
The old dreads have arms mounts modified to take the current loadouts.

WYSIWYG isn't a problem regard to that. They are my chapter's oldest, most valuable relics.

I've been using an OOP razorback for years now and have it modeled as if its been in use by my chapter of Ultramarines for eons. It gets more attention from people than any of my new tanks. The size is nice though. The model is slightly thiner than the new razor backs which makes it handy in terrain heavy maps.
