The metal models are lightly washed with a black wash/ink.

They did that with all the old models in the GW catalogues. Just adds definition.

Also adding a touch of Future Floor Finish to your ink helps to break the surface tension and get ink flowing smoother.

Washes straight out of the pot might be a bit too strong, add a little water.
