Turn1a
Rik wins the roll off and chooses first turn. He moves all his units into good fireing positions, and takes fleet of foot moves even further. The Prism shoots at the Infiltrated Ratlings, but they make their cover saves.
Turn1b
The guard reacts by throwing some fire at the guardian squad from H.bolters, killing one. The two squads held up in a building open fire on the wraithguard, but as I was soon to discover killing a wraithguard with a lasgun is nigh impossible. One of the wraithguard drops from a plasma shot that gets by their Conceal save. I play too cautiously with the Demolisher, and back up to hide from the wraith cannons. That choice hurt me the entire game.
End of Turn 1 (sorry it's canted)
Turn2a
The eldar brace their weapons to fire, and the wraithguard continue their advance forward, Running to gain extra ground. Only a few guardians are in range, but they manage to drop one ratling. The snipers manage to take out one of the Cadians on the top floor, and the Dark reapers fire on the chimera, hoping to get a rending hit with Maugan Ra's weapon. The shots bounce off, and the chimera is unharmed. The Fire Dragon exarch used his superior range to get a shot in at the chimera, and disable the turret weapon.
Turn2b
The guardsmen prepare to fire, and re-position the demolisher to fire on the wraithguard. The wounded chimera deposits it's squad in the rubble, and they rapid-fire on the fire dragons, who loose 3 of their number, but refuse to retreat, passing the ensuing morale check. All guns blaze at the wraithguard, and through the combined fire of 40 cadians and a Leman russ demolisher, 4 more drop in one turn. Being fearless, they did not need to check morale. The command chimera fired it's autocannon at the prism, but the shots bounced off it's AV12.
End of turn 2
Turn 3a
The Eldar seek vengeance for the lost wraithguard. Maugan Ra gets some by using his crack shot ability to destroy 4 cadians single-handedly. The other reapers chip in by killing 2. The wraithguard move into range of the command chimera, but suffer from a volley of poor rolls, and only immobilise and stun the vehicle. The guardians decide not to shoot, and use their fleet of foot ability to engage the ratlings in hand to hand combat. The win the combat by 3, dropping the ratling
LD to a meager 3. They fail their check and are overrun by the eldar. Eldar take the lead 1-0.
Turn3b
The guardsmen scramble to combat the wraithguard. The pour the same volume of fire into the squad that they did previously, but through poor "to wound" rolls (and
str 3 lasguns) combined with good armour saves, zero fall. Even the demolisher fails to kill the wraithguard, as the shot strays to the side, and only catches one, who makes his 5+ conceal save. The guardsmen in the rubble stand their ground against the onslaught of the Phoenix lord, and fire back killing one of his Reapers.
End of turn 3
Turn 4a
The wraithguard advance towards the Demolisher, hoping to destroy it with their indiscriminate weapons. Many of them are out of range, and the shots that do hit only stun the tank. The rangers hope to help out the wraithguard, by sniping at the heavy bolter team that was taking cover in the ruins, but fail to do any damage. Maugan Ra finishes off the cadians in the rubble, killing them to the last man. The guardians consolidated into a firing position, and opened up on a squad of cadians who were in the open from fireing at wraithguard. The guardians destroyed 7 guardsmen, and the fire prism finished off the rest. Eldar move ahead in the lead 2-0.
Turn 4b
The demolisher can't shoot, so the killing of the wraithguard is all up to the guardsmen and their lasguns. That's a very bad thing for me. All the guardsmen try their hardest, but they only manage to scratch the wraithbone, and kill zero wraithguard with all their fire. The wounded troop chimera drives as fast as it can to reach the prism on the other side of the building. The command squads keep their heads down, as they are worth 2kp a pop.
Turn 5a
The wraithguard fire-on and charge down the squad that formed rank directly in front of them. Using their superior toughness, they win the combat by 3, and proceed to overrun the guardsmen, giving the eldar a 3-0 lead. The guardians advance, and fire on a squad in cover, but inflict minimal damage. The fire dragons had re-positioned to stop the charging chimera from ramming the prism, but only the exarch was in range. He fired using his BS5, but rolled a one and did not hit.
Turn 5b
The wraithguard are spread out to avoid the blast from the demolisher, but a direct hit gets 3 of them anyway. One roll fails to wound, and the other 2 are stopped by the infernal magic of the warlock. Emperor curse the witch! I had no chance left of destroying the squad. All other fire was aimed at the large team of guardians. After salvos of Heavy Bolter and Lasgun, only 4 remained standing. They tested morale, and passed, denying me a kill point. The last chance to gain a kill point raced around the corner of the building in the form of an enraged turret-less chimera. It rammed full speed into the fire prism, and came oh so close to destroying it, but only immobilised it.
Rik rolled the die for game length, and got a 2. The game was over.
"Flawless Victory" said the harvester of souls.
A solid win for Rik's Eldar.
Reflections-
-I wasted my fire on the wraithguard. If I ignored them, then tied them up in
CC later, I could have taken down the easy kill points in the eldar army with all my fire.
-Battletanks. I should have used more.
Game's Heroes-
Guardians. Claiming 2kp, and refusing to be pinned or fall back all game, these space elves did their job well.
