Stalwart Space Marine

I've been a space marine player since I started playing 40k. Unfortunately, this equates to about 6 months ago. In that frame of time I've built up well over 2000 points of marines, but....none of them are painted (just basecoated in black). This stems from the fact that I can never seem to decide on aq color scheme. Recently, I settled on using Salamanders, but everywhere I look there seems to be someone else who reaches the same conclusion. Being the anti-conformist that I am, I am somewhat discouraged from painting my marines as Salamanders now. I've bounced around from Imperial Fists, to Raven Guard, to my own DIY chapters the Sapphire Rain and Time Phantoms. Now that I've decided on the Time Phantoms, I feel the urge to go back to Salamanders.

Long story short, what do you believe are really popular paint schemes for certain armies? This doesn't necessarily apply to marines, but commenting on the SM is always welcome.

Also, do you think I should opt for Salamanders or go for my own Time Phantoms? (see included picture)
This is due to my desire to use a lot of land speeders, bikes, and the like (which Salamanders don't use that often), but I still can't get away from the green marines.
Your thoughts/comments?

Interesting variation. Is the idea to do silver and gold or gray with a desert yellow?

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

Should have pointed that out. The scheme is gray armor with an orange secondary color. Eagles and other details are plain white.

I like your scheme. The only reason to care about popular colors of anything is resale value. Paint the scheme you like.

Go Time Phantoms! Though the purity seal should be red, not green. Not because it's "typical," I just think it would look better. Aside from that, great scheme! Be sure to post pics!

time phantoms.

Go for grey,its a rare color-scheme.

Sallies won't fit to your army composition, because thy are the opposite of bikes and speeders.
Maybe relate them to the white scars if you like fast units.

Gotcha. I like it. It's a pretty bog-standard codex pattern but with interesting and different colors.

Now that we've talked enough about my scheme, what do you guys think are the most popular color schemes for each army? As aforementioned, it always seems like there's a new Salamanders army that pops up whenever I so much as blink.

I'd say look for more Ultras to start making an appearance. Why? Because they're shown on the back of the box of AoBR. Most (not all) people want their models to look like what's on the box. I was guilty of it when I bought my set YEARS ago... I started painting them as Blood Angels as that's what was on the box at the time.

Crimson fists have a great, but easy to paint scheme.

And they aren't white or yellow which are always a bugger to paint.

Not sold on the blazing orange with gray. gray is a great color that complements everything, but the orange will really pop on the gray. Better to go with a cooler color or a less saturated color like an ocher.
