I'm thinking about buying the Forgeworld chaplain dreadnought and was wondering if someone could fill me in on the differences between the Forgeworld dreadnoughts and the GW ones in terms of how the arms attach. I would like to not have to buy the Forgeworld arms if the arms in the GW box will fit.

Also, do the legs and feet of the GW model attach in the same fashion as the FW models? The one thing i really prefer on the GW venerable models (aside from the price) is the the feet.

Thanks for your response

I have no idea mate, I've never bought one. but i am tempted cos they add so much diversity to your army. they look the buisness.

but forgeworld pieces i've seen before are generally all superglue jobs. kinda like GW's metal models.

They don't have push fit bits, but they're not too complicated, just different. remember to wear a mask if you're filing down resin...or else the cancer will get you!

You can use GW dread arms on FW dreads, although the GW arms are 'bulkier'. You can't really notice the difference, unless you try to use FW dread arms on GW dreads...then they look a little on the small side. Anyways, I think GW arms on a FW dread look fine.

*Shrug*, I still like the style of the FW close combat arms....I think it's worth buying.

thanks

i agree about the close combat arm. i actually just got my dark angels venerable dread from them today and the model is amazing. i bought several arms for it, and while they are quite nice, the price gets pretty outrageous! i was looking at the gw box set and it comes with just about every weapon configuration, so i figured i could share the arms with the chaplain dread if they fit.

i also figured one of the fancy claw-style cc arms was probably enough for my army. don't want to overdo it

funny isn't it how the forgeworld stuff is never quite the right scale even though they are basically part of gw... their buildings are stunning, but way too big to coexist with the gw city kits.

If you're looking for a close combat arm that doesn't have such stumpy fingers, it's something to order some Furioso claws - they look much better than the standard and Black Reach Dreadnought Close Combat Weapons, while being conspicuously less expensive than Forgeworld.

I've also been looking at buying a Forgeworld Dreadnought and perhaps some matching arms for Mortis pattern configurations, and I've heard stuff about magnets, but that's about it. Hopefully someone with some experience'll post soon!

i have build 5 dif FW dreads and the GW arms fit them just fine.
Also you can just slide the arms on and off with little hassle, i had my first one with DCCW and Assault Cannon and could switch out for Missle launcher TL Lascannon.

the Furioso Dread arms are Metal and i would be weary about putting them on the super lite Resin model as getting them to attach may be a problem, and may tip the model over.

Magnets are great for the arms just be careful of drilling into the Resin as it can shatter if you use a dremel i would suggest using a pin vice drill as you have more control.

how would you get a hold of a pair of furioso dread arms without buying the whole model?

Went digging through my old posts, and guess what? I've been hating on mat ward since before it was cool

Probably with difficulty, although Ebay may provide useful. I recently completed my FW Chaplain dread but use him as a VDCF dread with both the FW close combat arms. And yes the arms are interchangeable throughout the GW and FW dreads. Good luck with your project.

FW Dread arms are no different to GW Dread arms, other than being made of resin rather than plastic. The arms designed for the standard Dread (I forget what 'Mk' it is) are neither smaller, nor bigger, bulkier, thinner, or whatever. You take the Mortis arms and put them up against the plastic ones and they are mirror images in every way.

The only downside is the connection point, which for some is fine (my Mortis TL-Lascannons, Inferno Cannon and Plasma Cannon arm all fit snuggly), and some it is not fine (my regular and mortis TL-Autocannon arms and Mortis Dread Missile Launcher arms are very loose, and require something to hold them on when I use them).

Now the other 'Mk' arms, are very similar to the standard arms but yes, are a little thinner as the Dreads themselves are a little thinner. I've got a trio of FW Chaos Dreads, and the arms from them are smaller than the regular Dread arms. Even moreso than the other ones, because both the Dread and the arms are resin, it's a mixed bag on how they go together. The two DCCW arms on my WE Dread are fine, but if I swap one out for the Plasma Cannon, it's very loose. Given FW's track record with casting YMMV on the connection points there.

You can probably get away with the other Mk. arms on a regular Dread, but the other ones are better. I just wish they made an opposite side normal Dread DCCW arm.
