I was wondering what people thought of the power level of the master of the forge when mounted on a bike w/ a conversion beamer.

They seem like a 2x auto include in any non flavor marine list (sternguard/librarians, shrike armies ect.)

Relatively cheap for an HQ. You get a unit that can move 12 inches a turn while firing a (usually) str 10, ap1 blast template that statistically hits over half the time. It can also out range most weapons so you opponent has little chance of killing it.

Not to mention the bolster defenses ability which helps you hold one of your own objectives in objective games.

I personally see this as close to the same power level as lash princes or eldrad. Forcing opponents to play around it so that it doesn't wreck them.

Does anyone else see this as the next lash prince, eldrad HQ that soon becomes an auto include in vanilla marine shooty lists?

42" is a long ways away. If something is 42" away, chances are good that you don't care about it anyways.

Any assault army will still just run at you, no change there. Any shooty army usually fights around 18-30", if you split the beamer off on his own to try to stay outside of 42", he's liable to get zinged by a lascannon equivalent. On an unlimited board, these would be kings I am sure - as would railheads and basilisks.

Comparing this to lash princes or Eldraad who both drastically change how any army plays, seems premature though.

Ditto Moz. The conversion beamer is a great weapon... 15% of the time. If your target isn't out of lascannon range, it's just a really crappy missile launcher.

Now, to the thread title, MotF power level is pretty darn good. Give him a power weapon and he's basically 3 PW attacks + 2 PF attacks in close combat, a twin-linked plas pistol and flamer for shooting, and can bolster terrain and repair vehicles. If you don't need your HQ to be a close combat duelist, the MotF is a really darn good buy.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

Not to be a poo but it is only a small blast. Still a worthwhile choice, though.
