I'd take DPs instead of Sorcerers and beef up the Plague Marine squads by dropping one Termie squad.

Yep, all they have to do is knock out 15 PM to keep you from winning everything but KP.

And whilst you're pointing and shouting at the boogeyman in the corner, you're missing the burglar coming in through the window.

Well, Duh! Because they had a giant Mining ship. If you had a giant mining ship you would drill holes in everything too, before you'd destory it with a black hole

Keep a large squad of Termies, its a shock and awe unit. The enemy cannot handle it.
NB: If you like have a look into my latest battle report (RTT) here at the site.

think I should run some of the lesser demons, or the great demon, I do have everything for nurgle chaos marines (no I don't run the demon codex, too one trick pony for my taste)

perhaps some rhinos?

mahybe run eldar or tau or nids instead of chaos?

dont take lesser demons or a greater demon. they suck so much it almost makes me cry.

i like this army. i like the way it looks and i think youll have fun playing it. you wont win your tournament but youll probably enjoy yourself anyway.

20 terminators is a lot for this iszed game, and as you can see, it rather limits what you can have, but if you must run it.

those sorcerers should be demon princes, for an extra 5pts its a steal.

the terminators should have heavy flamers if you are planning to DS them in. let the obliterators and demon princes deal with tanks, since you will be sacrificing combi-meltas for fists and having only a couple of combi-meltas isnt worth it.

your plague marines are fine. contrary to popular belief, its not easy to kill 15 plague mairnes where the are 2 demon princes, 3 obliterators and 20 terminators killing your stuff.

the biggest danges to this army is you getting bad reserves rolls or bad scatters. if you dont get good rolls there you may as well concede the game because you wont win. i dont like throwing the game away on the results of one or two rolls, i prefer a bit more certainty, so if i was in your shoes this is what i would run:

2x
Demon Prince 160
Wings
Mark of Slaanesh
Lash
Personal Icon

3x
4 Terminators 160
Heavy Flamer
Powerfist x2
Combi-Melta x3

3x
6 Plague Marines 198
Melta Gun x2
Personal Icon
Rhino

2x
3 Obliterators

this list is much more scary, and isnt an auto-lose if you scatter into some trees. icon on the princes and PMs mean that you can put your terminators, or even obliterators, down where you want them to be (an absolutely essential requirement in DS armies). PMs in rhinos are harder to kill and faster, so you will be able to reach those far away objectives and stay on them. your terminators come down near something, it gets lashed close to them and then blasted appart. the benifit of DS is that you can focus on one element of your opponents army one step at a time. a lot of armies cant deal with an attack from two fronts. you may require more than one terminator squad to kill big things in one go (like 30 boy mobs of orks) but if you land in the right place (and you will because of the icons) everything you drop next to should die.

Polonius wrote:Well, seeing as I literally will die if I ever lose a game of 40k, I find your approach almost heretical. If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live?

Don't take small units. Even small units of Plague Marines or Termies die.

I suggest 2 winged DP with MoS and lash.
10 Termies with 2 heavy flamers and 2 power fists.
3 units of Plague Marines,
some Obliterators.

to answer the question of the post. i wouldn't bring chaos.

how many people actually know what units to shoot at in a dark eldar army? i'll drop a talos and watch 2-3 rounds of firing going in to shooting at that.

so i would bring Dark Eldar.

it was not specified as hardcore players... or hardcore lists.

from the posting of his list i am going to go with the latter.

this is also a list thread...

let's go with list.

i can go out and buy a power list and not know what to do with it.

Think I'm going with the old stand by.

Eldrad

and then lets see what supports him...

Do I go pure mech or hybrid?

Eldrad

10 banshees exarch all the powers, executioner blade
In a WaveSerpent w/ 2 x shuriken cannons
10 Dire Avengers Exarch with 2x shuriken catapult, bladestorm
In a Waveserpent w/ Brightlance and Shuriken Cannon
10 Dire Avengers Exarch with 2x shuriken catapult, bladestorm
In a Waveserpent w/ Brightlance and Shuriken Cannon
10 Storm Guardians w/ 2x flamers, Warlock with Destructor and Singing Spear
In a Waveserpent w/ Brightlance and Shuriken Cannon
5 Pathfinders
Naked Fire Prism
Naked Fire Prism
Naked Fire Prism

The other Eldrad list is something I have't tried but has a deny you cover save element that might be good, however it gives up the ability to kill av14, I know the terrain at our store its very very heavy in the forest department so cover saves exist anywhere and everywhere.

Eldrad
Maugan Ra

7 Harlequins with 2 x fusion pistol, Seer, kisses and troupe master

7 fire dragons with exarch and flamer
in a waveserpent with 2 x shuriken cannnons

10 Storm Guardians w/ 2x flamers, Warlock with Destructor and Singing Spear
In a Waveserpent w/ Brightlance and Shuriken Cannon
5 Pathfinders
5 Pathfinders
10 Dire Avengers Exarch with 2x shuriken catapult, bladestorm

3 Dark Reapers, Exarch with Tempest Launcher and Crackshot and Fastshot
3 Dark Reapers, Exarch with Tempest Launcher and Crackshot and Fastshot

Obviously 2 x 3 in the heavy slot looks weak, my intention is to place them behind LOS blocking terrain, otherwise they are dead, dead, dead.

My title is lame for this thread. Its a 1850 Hard Boyz style tournament.

I have

Chaos Marines - Nurgle Themed
Eldar - not fully painted, but most close enough to run at this tourny (yeah, someone decided to make 3 colors on a model the minimum requirement... grr)
Tau - Farsight Themed
Nids (not fully painted, no desire to play even if they were)

I had initially thought to try to bring a competative chaos list, but its looking more like I'll just do Eldar. What makes eldar hard to play is that the troops are so squishy, cost so much, and the transports now are really easy to break, plus all the 4+ cover saves at my lfgs that I can't accomplish hardly a thing in 5 turns, and on most of my games I roll that 1 at the end of turn 5. so pretty much i never know if I have another turn to pull off a crazy trick or not.

Hey, Phiasco, don't hijack the thread. DE is not a topic here.

I figured that Eldar lost an edge. In particular, drop podded units (Dreads or Marines) are hard to take down by the above lists.

Why so pessimistic? I'd tried it at a tournament (1750 pts level) and it worked very well.
A large Termie squad is a shock and awe unit and really hard to destroy.
