I'm getting ready to put some of my HE kits together and was wondering about loadouts. Is a mounted noble with with BSB and a lance and shield legal? Seems like it would be awkward but I was maybe going to put a large pennant on his lance to use as a banner.

They can certainly use a shield, they were the first army book (and only one so far IIRC) that allows it.

Lance is a one handed weapon so BSB, lance and shield shouldn't be a problem.

Dragon armour
Battle Banner
Shield
Barded warhorse.
Lance
Unit of dragon riders with full command and war banner

= WIN

Even before atacks your combat res (as long as BSB survives) = 4 to 9.
At a tourney here in Brisbane a couple of weeks ago I saw the above set up hit a unit of skaven clanrats for a combat res of 18! - 5 for the skaven's combat res = splat!

That's the setup I run for my BSB.

Pretty reliable assuming you don't whiff all your attacks (like I consistently do -__-).

Or get charged in the Flank by a Frenzied Wyvern and it's equally demented Rider.
Mind you, that tends to kill most things pretty quickly!

Just out of interest, do you think that's a mistake by GW? and that they forgot to type in the bit where it says you can't have additional equipment?

The reason i ask is, i've got an orc army. A black orc BigBoss has an array of choppas which means he can have a 2-h axe, hand wpn or additional choppas. This is technically also a BSB. But i've always assumed it's a mistake, and used one hand weapon

Nope!

All books since High Elves (I think. Might have been slghtly earlier) have allowed this....

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

I usually stop there. (Gonads added Dragon princes and Battle banner as standard.)

The unit you add into can be infantry or cavalry, no penalties in this edition.
The banner may or may not be magical - if it is Battle Banner is the must take.
If it isn't Gem of Hoeth or Reaver Bow is my choice of item. The first makes you a wizard the second a mobile heavy bolter.

Essentially the barded steed is a no brainer, even if only for the +2 armour save.

Second 25pts to add 12" rerollable leadership to a hero is worthwhile. I imply it this way because BSB no longer has restrictions so the battle standard is synonymous with a 25pt item doing same that doesnt of itself detract from your magic item limits.

Ireally like Reaver Bow heroes personally, they always deliver, so I thought why not mount him? Then thought, why not make him my BSB? I cannot see a reason why not except on the occassion I want to buy the Battle Banner.

The metal archer hero model is quietly gathering dust, there is no reason to field it anymore.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion. By the juice of the brew my thoughts aquire speed, my mind becomes strained, the strain becomes a warning. It is by tea alone I set my mind in motion.
