Lance is a one handed weapon so BSB, lance and shield shouldn't be a problem.
Dragon armour
Battle Banner
Shield
Barded warhorse.
Lance
I usually stop there. (Gonads added Dragon princes and Battle banner as standard.)
The unit you add into can be infantry or cavalry, no penalties in this edition.
The banner may or may not be magical - if it is Battle Banner is the must take.
If it isn't Gem of Hoeth or Reaver Bow is my choice of item. The first makes you a wizard the second a mobile heavy bolter.
Essentially the barded steed is a no brainer, even if only for the +2 armour save.
Second 25pts to add 12" rerollable leadership to a hero is worthwhile. I imply it this way because
BSB no longer has restrictions so the battle standard is synonymous with a 25pt item doing same that doesnt of itself detract from your magic item limits.
Ireally like Reaver Bow heroes personally, they always deliver, so I thought why not mount him? Then thought, why not make him my
BSB? I cannot see a reason why not except on the occassion I want to buy the Battle Banner.
The metal archer hero model is quietly gathering dust, there is no reason to field it anymore.
