Kind of bemused by the lack of new units in Warriors of Chaos (stealing all the nasty monsters from Beasts of Chaos was cheating). I started wondering what they could have included and my thoughts turned to the seemingly forgotten Chaos Dwarves. Here's why I think they should have made an appearance in this book.

Chaos Dwarves used to be part of the Chaos army list a couple of decades ago. Anyone remember the very cool metal minatures by Marauder?

They do actually figure in the new list with the Hellcannon, so why not an infantry unit? They could be given blunderbuses like the tall hat Chaos Dwarves had for a bit of short range punch.

Yes, they would be kind of similar to Chaos Warriors i.e. tough with high armour save, but they would also be cheaper and would allow a similar "solid as rock" unit at a lower cost.

To further distinguish them, they could invoke blessing (or should that be curse) of Hashut - No more movement, but +1 to toughness, unbreakable (literally) and immunity to fire.

Any other thoughts?

If stealing beasts is cheating, then how is stealing Chaos Dwarves not cheating?

Cos, Chaos Dwarves don't appear to be coming back unfortunately, so it's not technically stealing (although in terms of coming up with new ideas, it is cheating).

chaos dwarves need their own codex really. it wouldnt be hard to write with a little bit of effort and the only two real world influences that are missing for WFB are a persian/assyrian style army (chaos dwarves) and a far eastern style army (cathay maybe one day, if we're good)

taking up the mission

If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live?

Can't say as I ever really cared for the old Chaos Dwarfs. The hats irritated me and the bull/centaurs/whatever they were called, just plain confused me However, the dwarfs modeled with the Hellcannon would look absolutely amazing as an army!

I'm just holding out for Mutants in the Beast of Chaos list. Considering they play a fair part in the fiction, they don't appear on the tabletop at all!

Why did they even include Dragon Ogres? For the cost why not take knights? They both wreck house almost equally.

Choice and variety.

Plus, it was likely an eye to keeping as much of peoples armies as legal as possible since the three flavours were split into seperate entities.

Mutants are easily reflected as marauders.

I wouldn't be surprised if CDs are gone. They looked stupid (sorry, they do just like the old big hair zen wearing wood elves looked stupid) and can be reflected by using the current dwarf or MoC list. The new models look cool, but a nod is probably all we will see. Their haven't been any mentions of any sizable amounts of CDs, much less an army of them, in WHFB since RH. They weren't even an army until 4th and never had a proper Army Book (just a collection of repreinted material). Partially because they apparently never sold very well.

i'm just finding it anoying that first my beasts of chaos army is now BoC, DoC & WoC army ... and now it looks like i'm going to lose all cool models when the codex updates (in october so i've got a little while) ... i can't think of any thing other then giants that apear in more then one codex ... why couldn't WoC take an armoured giant and leave me my shagoths

Tri, totally unsubstantiated rumours have now reached my ears about possible new units for Beasts, including....

Chimera (cheap flying breath weapons I'd expect) Gorgons (whether a unit or not I haven't a clue) and the promise of other mythical nasties being dropped in. This has tickled my fancy somewhat I have to admit, and I hope they are fairly true!

I have to say I agree about holding off on it.

Daemons and Warriors both changed substantially. Maybe not so much in what was and wasn't available, but the organisation of the list.

Plus I'd expect a slew of new plastics to come out into the bargain.

I wouldn't mind a mutant rabble unit entry in the WoC army. Make them worse than marauders but cheaper.

But since marauders are so cheap now that's kind of pointless.

Ok, I'd just really like to see some plastic mutant models.
