So recently iv began to notice something about 40k games, as i recently started playing again after a 2 or 3 year hiatus. It seems that most games, i play, my army included, half the models used are not even present in the first turn of the game. Just about every games around 1500 pts seems to involve deepstrike, some armies more than others, but as marines have this ability that means i see it even more than i would if marines wernt so popular. But i have to ask, does the fact that deepstrike is always in the game make it somewhat overpowered as to you might be dumb to NOT take it? Deepstrike termies seems like a no brainer, perhaps the reserves roll is too easy for second turn. I just dont remember seeing it as much when i used to play. Heck i deepstrike my guard! which almost seems against the fluff, but its just such a tactical boon to be able to basically place your units exactly where they are needed.

thoughts?

It depends on the army youre using and the army youre playing against. Its still risky business. I've seen enough players lose because of a bad reserves roll to know its not a sure thing. DS certainly has its place but i wouldnt call taking a DSing unit an auto-include.

If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live?

It's FUN!! First round of the Baltimore GT I decided to DS everything that could in my IG army, with the rest in Reserve. My Eldar opponent spent two turns fiddling and diddling waiting for me to show up, and meant his Fire Prisms didn't really accomplish much during the game (killed one Hellhound, IIRC).
Regular games, DSing vets with Meltas, Plt Cmds with plasma and flamers, Special weapon squads with Demo Charges. Best way to get these guys close to their intended target.
