Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

So this is 1500 points of Steel Legion. After this comes Ordnance in Heavy Support and misc Wargear, about 500 points worth. Say three tanks. As I mentioned in other threads, one 200 point Demolisher and two Medusas.

Command Squad
Xeno Fighters - Orks
Heroic Senior Officer
Power Weapon, Bolt Pistol, Trademark Item
Guardsmen
Chimera
Autocannon, Heavy Flamer

Sentinel
Armoured Top, Lascannon, Improved Comms

Steel Legion Infantry Platoon

Command Squad
Xeno Fighters - Orks
Junior Officer
Honorifica Imperialis, Power Weapon, Laspistol
Guardsmen
Chimera
Multilaser, Heavy Flamer

Infantry Squad
Xeno Fighters - Orks
Missile Launcher, Grenade Launcher
Chimera
Heavy Bolter, Heavy Stubber

Infantry Squad
Xeno Fighters - Orks
Missile Launcher, Grenade Launcher
Chimera
Heavy Bolter, Heavy Stubber

Sentinel
Armoured Top, Lascannon, Improved Comms

2x Sentinel
Xeno Fighter - Orks
Autocannon

2x Sentinel
Xeno Fighter - Orks
Autocannon

// 1103

So that leaves ~ 400 points free. I was looking at this.

Conscript Platoon
30x Conscripts
3x Flamer

Inquisitor Lord with Retinue
Close combat + 3 Grenade Launchers
// ~ 200 points

So about 50 points free I was thinking of adding Assassins.

So Conscript Platoon goes in the middle. Inquisitor Lord goes behind it. The two ld9 Command Squads go to either side and make a Leadership bubble. The Chimera manouver and the two Infantry Squads are tactical. The Ordnance fires, the Chimeras try and block LoS to the big guns.

All in all a cool army. 75 infantry models, one honking Russ tank, 6 Sentinels (which can be swapped out for more infantry) and 6 Chimera chassis. A cool City-fight/ siege army.

I do not really know what to do with the Command Squads I was thinking of putting two Grenade Launchers in each, just to get some shots in.

If I swapped out two or three Sentinels I would probably take a squad of Grey Knights. I have six. That, and I will add Smoke Launchers at least even if there are 4 of them. 12 points probably keep at least one alive and/ or get another round of shooting out of it.

This looks like the perfect opportunity for your steel legion to use some "inquisitorial chimeras"

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/pdf/ia2-update.pdf

That kinda savings might encourage you to take an armored fist squad as your second troop rather than hive gangers.

Steel legion is cool stuff. This army will look great with those closed top sentinels.

For the command squads, since they hate orks so much I could see them using lots of flamers. Plus in game, 4 flamers coming out of a chimera is pretty nasty to take on a big ork unit.

Feel free to PM me to talk about your list ideas....

ah, nice. 25 points saved on each tank frees up 100 points. I would probably add ... I don't know. Probably another infantry squad like you suggested. I kind of like the "Inquisitorial Valkyrie" heheh.

Stupid though this may sound, I just realized I can take Commissar Yarrick. Maybe I will put him in with the Hive Gangers.

Do you have to stick to the Steel Legion Doctrines 'cause... yeah... no. Xeno Fighters doesn't help you, it hinders you.

There is so much you could trim in this list to save a mint.

Xeno Fighters is optional. I can certainly lose it on the Sentinels at least. 20 points. 40 points if I lose it all together.

Doctrines:

Conscripts
Mechanized (I have to take the Chimeras)
Xeno Fighter - Orks
Storm Troopers
Ratlings

Pretty good doctrines. I for one kind of like Ratlings. . They get +1 cover save.

I can lose the Improved Comms but I think they will probably be cheaper in the next book anyway. That, and it is what the model comes with so.

Note that if I include heavy weapon teams I have to take a Chimera for each so they are kind of out. Hence the Sentinels.

Once again I ask:

Why are you taking the Steel Legion doctrines?

You can do a Mechanised army without having to use the waste-of-space Steel Legion doctrines.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

I could swap Xeno Fighter for Iron Discipline and Ratlings for Close Order Drill. Close Order Drill makes the Conscripts I4, woo.

Depending on what I want to do I can choose between either Storm Troopers or Ratlings. I do not have points for everything anyway. Basically I have one doctrine free behind:

Mechanized
Conscripts
Iron Discipline
Close Order Drill

So long as I keep one that keeps the flavour of Steel Legion. Which would seem to mean no Ogryns, unfortunately, boo. Although hopefully Command Squads will get a bodyguard upgrade in the eventual new codex.

Well that's ok. Ogryns are a junk unit.

And speaking of junk units, Sentinels with Armoured Hulls are also junk units. These things die when a casual breeze hits them. Armoured Top makes little difference here.
