Hey all I'm just wondering.

With the new 5th edition codex for SM am I able to take A Captain, Chaplin, and Librain in my command squad as one choice or not any more?

Doesn't matter what it is or what it is intended to do. If you add a chainsaw to it then it is instantly better!

No. Captains, Chaplins and Librarians are all individual HQ choices and therefore can't be selected as one unit.

Since the FOC was introduced in 3rd Edition, I can't think of any examples where this was possible.

In 4th edition codex, it was possible to take a Captain as an HQ choice, then take Libby and/or Chappie as a sort of accompanying character. It was wierd, but legal. I used it to create ridiculous Assault squads.

2 10 man Assault squads with a Chappie and a Master each? Yes please!

That being said, the rule is gone, so no, you cannot do that anymore.

Play Space Wolves... they need 1 HQ per 750 pts so you can still get 3 HQs but that is about the only one I can think of.

@Flashman ... old sM codex let you take a HQ + retinue and the add a second HQ all in one FOC slot ...

Black templars still have the rule if you want it but if you want a Librarian you'd have to get him from WH or DH (using an elite Inquisitor ... which could prove fun)

I'm not 100% with all space marine chapters, but I do know when I played my BA avidly, that you could make a similiar squad to what you're talking about. Except it was called an Honor Guard, it had a Techmarine, Apothocary, Standard Bearer, Sergeat and 1 other + the Jump Capable HQ of your choice. Made taking Dante an interesting choice as it allowed him to live a bit longer and get into CC where he'd tear up just about anything. I believe BA players can still use that, as I have yet to seen a revision of the BA rules reguarding that squad. I know there was some revisions done via White Dwarf that I remember and I believe the squad was still listed.

This also only took up 1 FOC HQ slot. Which meant you could take another one, except you were limited to 1 Honor guard per-Army if memory serves. Kept you from taking Dante and say Chaplian Lemartes as your HQ choices and giving them two very OP (over-powered) squads as back up.
