I tend to read a fair amount online about people using other manufacturers models for GW games, either because they prefer them, they fit the budget better, or whatever.

But does anyone do it the other way? Perhaps you started out in 40k, and then your gaming circle embraced another rules set? Perhaps the rules set doesn't have a supporting line, so you use what you've got?

Not going anywhere with this, just interested!

Back in the day when we played Chronopia, a friend designed rules for Skave and used them in the game.

When the first ever SMs came out I bought them for use in SF games. I also used plastic SMs in games of Space Hulk.

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

The old Space Hulk compendium covered Power Armoured Marines in a Hulk. Was quite good fun until the Genestealers reached you....

I don't have that book, however it was pretty easy to adapt the rules to take into account standard marines.

I use Kislevites for Warmachine Khador.

There are several threads at the Miniatures Page forums on using different rules/games for GW figs. The short list has:

Shockforce/Warengine
No Limits
5150/THW games (Chain reaction)
Stargrunt II
Combat Zone.
Rogue Trader (yes, it's 40k, but it bears so little resemblance to the current game as to be wholly foreign).

With some people making conversions for AT43, SST/BFE and the like.

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

Hi.
I know a few people who use WH minis in Armies Of Arcana.(The system lets you use all sorts of units-creatures, and has a points allocation system that is highly reguarded by those that use it!)

My gaming group tend to use our 40k minis with most of the quality rule sets free to down load.(Stargrunt II, No Limits, Chain Reaction, Infinity and Xenicide ( Beta versions ) ...etc)
As they are closer to what we expect from the 40k universe than the current 40k rules.

Unless you play in a GW store exclusivley, I think its worth looking at the alternatives available, (rule sets and minatures.)

Happy Gaming
Lanrak.
