I've been contemplating whether I should buy the big @ss rulebook for $50 or just grab one off ebay for $10 + get dice/templates extra [that I don't really need]. I would much prefer to just buy the mini-rulebook, but after playing WHFB there was some probs with the smaller book as oppose to the bigger one. I was wondering if anyone had some input? I talked to some people at my LGS and they said something to the effect of "the big book is clearer to some people, whilst the smaller one is to others" or some jacked up jazz like that.

ED: I guess I should have said I've got a pretty decent grasp of the rules. Just a few things I'd like to be able to read over when not in a game with somebody.

If their tanks shoot, then I really take them to the cleaners on sports scores to show the rotten bastage a lesson, unless the templates land on IG units of course.

What sort of problems?

The only way that the bigger book would be 'clearer' is if you have poor eyesight and need bigger text... the actual rules content is identical.

Haha .

Very good, I will proceed with grabbing one then [small one that is].

As for WHFB.. Well, IIRC, not "all" the rules were listed in the book that came with Battle for Skull Pass. I could be terribly wrong though. [I probably am.]

Thanks.

From memory, it didn't include the modeling section, and scenarios and the like. The actual rules section was complete though.

The 40K book is the same. It includes all of the core rules, and the standard missions.

get the small one, take it to kinko's, cut the binding and get the plastic lay-flat spiral bind on it. you can leave it open to a page and it won't try to close on you, and takes up 1/2 the space on the table top. Great stuff, cost you about 4 bucks but worth it.

I bought both, that way if anybody tries to get 'creative' with the TLOS malarky I have a blunt weapon at hand to adjust their attitude. It's pretty hard to play 40K with flattened miniatures, after all.

The Gamer's Edition and the Collector's edition are the same book with different covers.

Previous editions did not include scenario set up information, which is clearly part of the rules and not extras. They learned from that mistake this time, every rule you need (outside your codex) is present.

I strictly budget my hobby expenditure and thus have no plans to buy a large rulebook.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.
