Is this list still viable for 5th? I've got 10pts left over so I was thinking of swapping the flamers in the squads to plasma.

Thoughts? Opinions?

i'm not so sure in a 500 point game i wouldnt go ahead and drop the standard to free up a few more points for more/better weapons.

I mean for 500 points you enemy isnt gonna have many models himself (unless he's orks) so why not use those points to add another flamer or two or maybe another melta yet again to your command squads.

i played a few 500 point battle with my guard a few months ago and rarely did i use my standard bearer. looking back i would have rather had more rounds or better firepower at this low level going downrange.

Valid point. But freeing up those 11 points is either only going to get me another melta (is it really worth it if they've already got 3), or another flamer for the other PHQ, which would then leave me with 5 points. Or I could upgrade the flamers with the HBs to plasma....

No, you need those Flamers.

Nothing wrong with the Standard. In fact, I'd say that the fewer infantry your have, the more important that Standard becomes for keeping them on the line fighting.

And, as you said, there really isn't much you can add that would be worthwhile.

And the Standard to stop them breaking in the first place. Prevention is better than a cure.
