I'm thinking about doing an all-infantry shooty-heavy Adeptus Mechanicus army, but I'm having difficulty deciding which rules to use for the army. I want to be able to use it at tournaments, so it'll have to be an official dex, not house rules or an online project.

My first thought was to use Eldar rules, to represent the powerful technology and firepower that I imagine the Mechanicus having access to, but I'm concerned about causing confusion in my opponents. Marine or IG rules could work, but I don't really think of Mechanicus as having marine statlines, and the IG rules are on the verge of changing, so I'm not sure I want to lock myself into a rulebook that's about to change.

Prerhaps another codex altogether, like tau? Thoughts?

Man, that's the joy of Anime! To revel in the complete and utter wastefullness of making an unstoppable nuclear-powered combat andriod in the shape of a cute little girl, who has the ability to fall in love and wears an enormous bow in her hair.

I've seen it done well with the Witch Hunters book.

Chaos space marines is a thought as well. If you can dig up Tim Huckleberry's old codex, it's a really good read. Never used it, but it's not "legal" anyway.

Necrons would do fairly well. The basic troop of an admech army is a giant cyborg on treads with a sizeable gun, so WWBB and an autoglancing gun are a pretty good stand in. The necron lord even has the ability to resurrect others which is much akin to repairing nearby units and the armies only vehicle is a giant supertank.

My heart says Witchhunters.

1. they already have servitors in the retinue and archoflagelents. Penitent engines as crazy robots.
2. Sisters are already upgraded humans, mostly human stats but 3+ save and BS4. Acts of faith simulate crazy, unreliable tech
3. Possible IG or marine allies.
4. The fantaic mobs from WD work as non-combat servitors or worker mobs.
5. Priests with evicerators work as tech priests with big axes.

Etc.

My one fear is one fine day the Inquisition will be drastically changed and who knows what it will look like.

Tao with flying skull drones, hulking cybrog crisis suits and so on are a safer pick for the years to come.

Tau, just because you can use the crisis suits as knights, which is tooo cool an opportunity to pass up, also differentiates Skitarati form bog-standard gaurd quite nicely, drones can be servitors as well....

Vompire, welcome to Dakka. Please use punctuation in the future. You’re arguments will be sign with greater merit and you’ll avoid people calling you on it.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

Just use the new Space Marine book. Tac squads with Razorbacks. One shooty Scout Squad, maybe even with the Sergeant character, a pair of Scout Squads (Combat Servitors) in Land Speeder Storm. Techmarine gunner and a pair of Land Raiders. With your Troop filled by the three Scout squads you do not even need tac squads.

For HQ ... Tigurius? Why not, EH? Otherwise Sicarius, Forgefather Vulkan or even Marneus. Chaplain on bike or Jump Pack works, too.

Witch Hunters. They have a huge variety of units and wargear to allow you to represent pretty much anything in the Adeptus Mechanicus. They can also take allies from the IG, marines, and daemonhunters to expand that range even further.
For example, Inquisitor and retinue = Techpriest and retinue of different types of servitors and skitarii. Storm troopers = skitarii. Guardsmen = lightly armored skitarii. Flagellents = electro-priests. Inquisitor lord = Magos. You can represent pretty much anything in the Adeptus Mechanicus accurately using Witch Hunters and allies. It's what I did for some of the AdMech units in my Guard army.

Witch Hunters Freakshow with Inducted Guard is the way I'd suggest. You can have a *lot* of count-as walkers and servitors for various purposes. You can use Sv4+ storms, along with basic Guard as core infantry, along with Sv3+ "sisters" as warbots, if needed.

HQ
Karamazov! - for a Monstrous Creature with a Multi-Melta and massive sword!
1 Priest - to unlock the Freakshow elements

Elite
WH Inquisitor + Crusaders
Arco-Flagellants!
Cyber-Assassin

Troops
2x WH Stormtroopers - basic AdMech infantry
+2x IG AF Squad - to unlock the Sentinels and Russ

Fast
+IG Sentinels - for medium-sized shooty warbots

Heavy
Orbital Bombardment
Penitent Engines - for large, stompy, choppy warbots
+IG Leman Russ - for the Ordnance

I played against a chap at the UK GT who used Tyranids as an Adeptus Mechanicus army. All of the monstrous creatures were really well converted Penitent Engines with hugely barrelled weapons. The synapse rule was a cool way of representing the way the troops were all programmed and controlled by Adepts.

If I recall correctly, I was up against

Throne of Judgement and converted Ogryns: Tyrant with Guard
Metal Winged Nightbringer: Winged Tyrant

4 Penitent Engines: Assorted Carnifexs

Arco Flagellants: Gaunts
Servitors: More Gaunts

Tech-marines/Tech-priests: Zoanthropes

You might be able to find photos of the armies at Heat 3 where you can see how the guy did this.
