The other day, I looked into my shelf and noticed that all my miniatures are boxed up in tuppaware (sp?). Needless to say, I think I need a better method of transporting my minis. I looked at the GW figure cases, and the uniform size of the slots would make it impractical for my vehicles, terminators, etc (unless they differ from the web pictures). I was thinking of making my own figure case with cardboard, a plastic box, and strips of foam, unless I can find big blocks of foam to cut slots into.

Thus the question: How do you transport your minis, and do you have any suggestions for mine?

(THIS SPACE INTENTIONALLY LEFT BLANK)

I've managed to fit my entire 2500 point space marine force in one of those GW figure cases, well except the three dreadnauts (but i do have a predator and rhino in there along with 80 odd other models). Don't ask how i did it.

Do you remember that time that thing happened?

Why tell me to not ask when you know I will? That said, did you just fit the vehicles into the case or use the foam?

with a gw figure case just cut the foam to the desired size, in a standard size case i can fit 2000pts of wood elves or 1500pts of marines (chaos and imperial) with vehicles

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

I've got 3 standard GW cases and 4 of the double cases. It'd good for basic infantry, but that's about it.

For everything else, I use Master Car... no... lemme start again.

For everything else, I'll be using Sabol foam and their cases. I just bought 4 divisions. They will hold just about everything else that I currently have.

I glue rare earth magnets under my models, and transport them in metal toolboxes.

(I also have a few large cases with custom cut foam, works well but is a pain to do).

Sabol FTW!!! I love that they can be tailor made to each mini not just cookie cutter slots.

Speaking of transports, any recommendations for transporting a defiler? I'm waiting on an order from Gorilla Tactics containing a pair of rhinos and a defiler to go with my double daemon prince list, and transport is looking a little dicey...

I use a Sabol with 3" foam for my Defiler, but unfortunately his Close Combat Weapon sticks up just above the edge. Next Defiler, I'm getting a dread weapon or modeling that whip thing like it's a broom.

I have a fishing tackle box for my Tau w/ lots O' room to spare. It's lined w/ thin foam packaging from work. Now that fishing season is pretty much over around here, they're on the clearance wrack. Although for my Wolves still in the constuction process, I have a few boxes for circuit board shipping I'm going to use. They're about 1'x2'x6".

I just bought a Pelican 1650 Case to have my army sent to me in Iraq once I get there. I have 4 landraiders, 5 dreads and lots of other stuff in it.

A couple of things.

1) Figures
First all the figures are in gun cases. $20 for a double rifle case capable of holding 400 figures. I think I got this at Bass Pro Outdoor World, a few years (2001?) back.

2) Vehicles
I've got my vehicles in a variety of places. In the case of my space marines, I've got them all in the boxes the land raider models came in. This is going to sound way ghetto, but basically I stole the cushions from couches that people in the neighborhood were throwing away. They usually had thick foam about 2-3" thick. You can also buy this sort of thing in fabric stores. I then carved a custom hole in the foam for each vehicle. For my orks I did something similar, but I transport all the vehicles in a wheeled tool box I got for a Christmas gift.

All told, I think I've spent maybe $50-60 bucks and I've got enough space to transport two armies of several hundred models each.

Hello from freezing Scotland!
Heres what I do.You know the clear plastic storage
boxes that you get in DIY stores? The ones you can put
under beds etc.. Usually about 10 by 12 (make sure you
get the right depth so your figure's heads don't touch
the lid .Get some double sided tape and cut strips
and place them on a piece of cardboard that fits in-
side the box.Next get some masking tape (2 inch is best)
and place sticky side up on top of double sided.I
transport my Eldar army this way and have not had a
single breakage. Also these boxes are great for storing
miniatures.

I have a converted defiler (more on the brass scorpion side of modeling) and I went with sabol designs. I have a 4inch piece of foam for the majority of the body, and a 1 inch piece on top of it to contain the tail (I place it upside). It's the same way some people transport Monoliths, they have to use 2 4-inch pieces in a sandwich formation.

I went to Menards (Hardware/Contractor/Home Improvement Center) and found aluminum hard cases with sabol-like foam inside. Fit my 2000 point army with lots of room to spare. $19.95 USD. Not as nice as the sabol cases. but if cost is an issue, they'll do well enough.

Looking for friendly games in Western Ohio. Also in need of SM infantry and vehicle decals. Ultramarines symbols and unit symbols mostly.(TR, FA, HS)

I persoanlly like the "bang for the buck" scenario.

I use the SABOL ATC foam trays, and every squad/unit I create I give it a home in a tray that shares space with the same army.

I keep all my trays in storage and then just put them into a bag.

I like the sabol division because it is big and can hold different tray set ups, or for smaller events, or random games i use the gamers backpack because the sabol trays fit into it perfectly. it is 14" tall so i can pack in a 4+3+2+2+1+1+1 inch trays! easily totes my 1750 marines (cause i dont play land raiders!) and all my gear cause it has a lot of pockets.

plus i found out it was water proof when we went to an event as a group and saw the rain beading off of it and not soaking through!

I also use Sabol figure cases. You can buy trays separated so I've you want to transport your landraiders. You can buy another 4 inch tray.
But I didn't know it was waterproof^^

The trays are not waterproof, the bag from GAMERS BACKPACK are waterproof, and those hold the ATC trays

ill be putting it up on our net priced items site very soon

Sabol transports are the sh#*! You can have one carrying case, but multiple trays. Just take the trays you need for the day. With multiple armies it's really nice.

Take a smaller 1"tray and turn it upside down. It will form a protective box around the defiler.

Also, IF you take the torso off the defiler and attach it via magnets it becomes much more transportable.

I have the small GW cases, a Sabol platoon and another case vender that I use. The GW cases are by FAR the worst of the bunch. I am also not sold on the Sabol cases, though they work well for my Warmachine army. I love my other cases as they hold 40 models per "tray" and have 4 "trays" per case.

I use protable file carries for my vehicles with some foam inside. I just can't justify buying a $150 case that I am going trash most of the foam in.

I also use a mix of Sabol and GW cases, and have on or two fishing tackle-boxes I use for random items (including some vehicles). I use strips of foam in the tackleboxes to provide padding.

While the Sabol products are nice, if you're looking for something both cheap and effective I find for infantry that the use of tackle boxes with foam purchased to protect the miniatures is quite useful, and then the purchase of a pistol or a rifle case from an outdoorsman's store (i.e. Cabelas) is the most cost effective. From there, buy a duffle bag to carry them in.

Granted, I play Guard so I have more models than G-d, but I find that using products whose target market is more than wargamers to be less costly.
