I've Google'd this, searched CMON..and still can't find a satisfying tutorial. I'm looking for a tut that talks specifically about painting lava cracks/OSL effects. Any help appreciated!

Here is a tutorial from Brushthralls . It is a generic OSL tutorial and covers the basics pretty well.

Well I'm going to bring this back up form the grave in the quest for help. (I searched OSL Tutorial and this was the only thread/post that came up!)
I have painted the face to a standard I am pretty happy with on my Terminator Librarian. I would however like to go something cool with the eyes, get them glowing ice blue with a nice osl around the outside of the sockets and on the cheeks.
Where is a good tutorial for me to learn how to do this or do you guys on Dakkadakka have any good tips for me? I think I will do a few practice faces first to see how it comes out, but in reality I am pretty lazy and if it is easy enough I will just get stuck into it on the big lad and flash it.
Thanks very much in advance for your help and I look forward to seeing your responses.
Cheers
Jack

Hi Jack,
I don't know of any OSL tutes myself tbh, but i'm gonna write up a few at some point soon myself. I'll keep you posted.
For eyes though it really is as simple as glazing your colour of choice over the bits of the helmet where the light would fall, paying attention to the distance and angle of the surface in question realtive to the source of the light. Easy peasy...
Stoopid answer I know, but I don't have the time to write a comprehensive one here at the mo!
Here's a recent piece I done, not that it's got anything to do with SM eyes, but you might like anyway.

If I get a little slack then feel free to PM me and nudge me to finish the article.

Hey man thanks, I will just say I am a big fan of that piece you did (I've gone back to look at it twice in appreciation!)
It's a bare head but being a psycher I thought he would look pretty good with glaring blue eyes.
I was thinking the way I would do it was to paint the inside of the eye socket , tops of the cheek bones and inside of the nose near the eye socket a darkish blue, then highlight my eye up to a fairly light blue with a final white centre, doing so with the ridge on the cheekbones.
Is that kind of what you mean by glazing?
Looking at your photograph I can see you have done what I have said above with the floor tiles, as they get closest to the source of the light they blend from dark orange to light yellow, I would use the same technique but instead of the lead edge I would have the eyeball and cheek bones.
Thanks for the post and the photo, I think I understand now!

Follow the steps from step 9 onwards and you should be fine . This should work fine on any eyes with a reasonable size. Don't overglaze the surrounding area though, you want a tint not a blue raccoon face .
Glazing is layering a very thin layer of colour over an area so it is still transparent. A good guide is that a glaze of blue over a yellow area would go a greenish-yellow. Any more a jump than that and it gets hard to control the effect.
