Hey well thanks! It's part of my adepticon force this year, so I had to start early. The SkyRay should go quicker now that I know what colors I want where.

Thanks,

Nice, very crisp and good color scheme.

If you had to improve one thing, I would suggest for your Skyray to putty and sand the joints between plastic molds. The joints, especially in the top down view, are visible and its not too tough a fix. It is a pretty visible improvement that I noticed when I was building/painting mine.

BTW, did you detail the inside?

Nicely done here Mr. Mega.
The scheme is great. Im not a big fan of blue altogether, but it goes well with the subtle black and gold. Thx for sharing

really well done edge style highlighting - something i was never able to do well.
do you have any tips on brush control?
or do you always have to go back & tidy (doesn't look like it as the finish is really smooth)?
5 stars!

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

Fantastic paint job- you've definitely mastered the edge highlighting technique.

Where are the markings? The Tau decals are too good to ignore!

I tried, but I suck at the decals. I got the placement correct, but the edges crinkled up because of the doors being slightly rounded.

Very smooth. All by hand?

Yup yup! Two watered down coats of shadow gray does the trick.

I actually don't really like gold, but I kinda did it on accident on the gun drone, and it turned out pretty awesome from there. Sometimes the best things are those you didn't plan for!

BTW, did you detail the inside?

Nope, never do! I might think about it if I ever do a display piece or diorama, but for table top models I don't bother. I keep all the interior parts though, so if any one needs tau bulkheads....

Brush control? Well, just use a small one and try to run it along the edges with a feather touch. It takes me forever, I only do about an inch at a time, if that. I also keep my paint pretty thinned. I tidy up sometimes, but it irks me, so I would rather go slow the first time around and not bother. Hence the one inch or less.

If you had to improve one thing, I would suggest for your Skyray to putty and sand the joints between plastic molds.

Yeah, now that I have it all painted I wish I would have. I really didn't think it was going to look that ncie when I got done so... Oh well, skyray is the cooler model anyways, I'll get it right!

Well, I'm glad everyone liked it, I'm never sure what anyone else will think of my stuff.

Allright, I'll post more some time in the next five months and update ya.

Did you try cutting the decal vertically towards the center? Think of a circle that you cut along the radius. This will probably allow the transfer to fit the curve a bit better (it can now slightly change shape).

Very nice painting, one inch at a time? Now that's dedication. That said, some of my models take three months to convert so i can't say much. keep up the good work.

There's some stuff that aircraft modellers use for putting on decals. I can't remember the name. What it does is soften the decal transparent layer so it will settle down into crevices and over bolts.

Hmmm, I'll have to try that decal softening stuff, I didn't know they made thing like that, lol! Guess it's another trip to the hobbystore for me. (Which is never a bad thing!)

MicroSol/Set are good decal solutions... Set will soften the decal a bit and help it snuggle down and look painted on, Sol will melt the decal a bit more, and is best reserved for complex curved surfaces or very uneven spots for the decal... one important thing to keep in mind is that regardless if using any solution on your decal, the surface you're going to apply it to must be glossy for the best adhesion... a coat or two of Future Floor Wax brushed on is the best bet... and, when you apply any solution to your decal, once it's set in, DON'T TOUCH THE DECAL! It may wrinkle up a little as it sets, that's fine and normal, it will snuggle right down as it dries... if you play with it while it's softened, it will tear or smudge.
