I only just got the new codex and am just getting back into the game... I would love to get some feedback on the following list...

Thanks in advance...total points is ...1845...

HQ

Space Marine Commander (using archtype of Pedro Kantor - Sternguard count as scoring, all friendly models w/in 12" get +1 attack, and I think all get stubborn rule)
Chaplain (archtype of Cassius - for 25 points to have T6 and FNP...well...)

Land Raider - Extra Armor

Vanguard Vet Sqaud (8) - Will ride in LR with Kantor & Cassius - No Jump Packs
Sgt with 2 Lightning Claws

StearnGuard vet Squad (8)
Sgt. Combi Melta/Power Fist
Heavy Bolter
Heavy Flamer
2 Combi Plasma guns
Drop Pod

Tac Squad (10)
Las Cannon Plasma Gun

Tac Squad (10)
Sgt Pw swd & storm bolter (I have that one model that looks so cool)
Las Cannon Plasma Gun
Rhino w/ Extra Armor

Tac Squad (10)
Sgt Pw swd
Missile Launcher & Flamer
Rhino w/ Extra Armor

Basically run up with the LR and the CC Squad, which should be pretty nasty with a lot of attacks and fairly large.

Support with the two squads in Rhinos - possibly break them into combat squads to separate the heavy weapons

Final tactical squad to hold home objectives - likely to be split into combat squads

Stearnguard to drop in - shoot and hold objectives, likely to be used where needed.

Again, just getting back into the game and REALLY new to 5th ed.

Thanks all

its looks ok appart from a couple of things

You dont have enough anti-tank. 5 sources at 1850pts is a pittiful amount. Any mech armies or armies that like tanks (IG,Tau) will crush you under their iron treads (iron anti-grav generators?).

Your strenguard have bad equipment. When you have ammo that wounds on 2+, why do you need a heavy bolter? When you have ammo that ignores cover saves, why do you need a heavy flamer? When you can negate almost every save in the game, why are you bringing combi-plasma? Get rid of them and then give as many vets as you can combi-flamers. Then they will be able to kill tanks, as well as everything else (this will also help with your anti-tank issue).

if it were me, i would also prefer to have more than 3 troop choices at 1850pts. Unless you really know that your doing, 4 is probably the minimum.

If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live?

Regwon,

Thanks for the advice...I will reveiew it again...I am having problems grasping the new codex...in fact I don't like it very much...

Under Kantor, the Stern guard count as scoring, si it is 4 scoring units with this list...But is see the point on the weapons layout...Do you mean combi flamer or Melta...you mention being able to take out tanks with it...

Thanks again for the advice...

Regwon:

Bring a Heavy Bolter for that 36" range, extra Armour Piercing ability, and the Extra Attack. Good on the defensive. Bring a Heavy Flamethrower to hit more than twice, with a better Strength and a better Armour Piercing. After all, what's the point of ignoring 4+ cover if you can't ignore 4+ armour, and visa versa? They're also Assault weapons. Bring Combi-Plasma when you're facing lots of Sv2+ models, and Combi-Meltas don't have the range or volume of fire.

And I believe you meant "Combi-Meltas" insteads of "Combi-Flamers".

You've got a good start. You should have 10 Sternguard all with Combi-Meltas and no powerfist on the sergeant. Extra Armor on the Land Raider isn't worth it, instead buy a Multi Melta. Use Missile Launchers in the Tactical Squads instead of Lascannons save the points for your Sternguard.
