I decided I liked the idea of a force backed up by commandos, this is my attempt to create a list using Hardened Vets as a first strike force. the Vets are infiltrating, with the sentinals deepstriking right behind them. Also, does anyone know where the Guard 'command' special rule is that is hinted at in the codex?

You don't need stormtroopers to take grenadiers.
Carapace is a waste of points.
Voxes are a waste of points.
You should max out on heavy/special weapons in all your squads.
Take a veteran with a standard and Honorifica Imperialis in your command HQ.
Not enough tanks - take 0 or 2.
If you want to sneak up and close range shouldn't you use flamers?
Las/Plas isn't the best matchup.

regurgitating HBMC is so much fun.

It's too bad that this army isn't that great. It's very fluffy and looks fun.

If you were dead set on playing this particular list there is yet hope! keep this list saved and wait for the next codex.

however, as of this time, the above posts are correct...

Carapace is a waste of points.

I Like 4+ Saves.

Voxes are a waste of points.

I also like iron leadership bonuses.

why not just upgrade the CO?

Then stay in cover. Or, spend half the points (10 rather than 20), stay in cover and get 3+ saves.

Carapace is a waste.

Which you get --for free-- just from your Officers. You don't need to spend points as their Leadership extends out 12" in every direction --for free--, making Voxes useless unecessary junk.

Imperial guard codex, page 39, Command Squad, Special Rule: Leadership

Any IG unit within 12" of the officer may use his Ld when taking Morale and Leadership tests as long as he isn't in CC, falling back, or pinned.

Looks scary when it's written down, but yeah you should get more (and better) heavy weapons; if the vets are infiltrating, meltas or flamers would probably be a better choice. Carapice armor? Could be useful, could be a waste of a bunch of points you could be using to get more troops, which is what I personally would do. But then you never do know until you've played a couple games. Either way, though, It's definately going to look really good on the battlefeild.

... because that totally makes sense.

I just found this yesterday, and felt quite silly. Does this mean that the Iron Leadership only lets units containing officers regroup after taking 50% casualties? In that case, it makes IL kinda lame.

Because a JO with honorifica Imperialis only costs you 65 points, gives you the stat line of a HSO and is 5 points cheaper than the actual cost of an HSO.

So THATS why not to just upgrade the CO.
