Don't you live in Illinois?
Time to move to California, you'll be welcome here.

Of course I live in Illinois.
Funny thing is, we're not stunned that he did it. We're stunned at how

Yeah, I guess no one messes with our governor, but seriously, do you want to pay vehicle registration fees that will triple next year? I don't. Energy is also expensive, because there's a monopoly on it between PG&E or SCE. I live in the sticks though, so we don't have a Municipality district like Sacramento or other areas. Not to mention the state legislature's inability to balance the budget for how many years in a row?
I'm beginnging to believe my mom and dad have the right idea in moving to washington, and out of this state.
Anyways, would it come as any surprise to the amount of corruption from Chicago? It is been its MO since the 20's or whenever.

Given you have a senator who was found with $100,000 in the freezer and another one who’ll be serving hard time for being given some seriously ugly art, I don’t think it’s being weeded out that well at all.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

It really depends on the state. In general though they have similar positions. They act as the executive-they run the state bureaucracies, can introduce legislation and budgets etc. In some states they have the power to appoint or nominate judges or interim legislators but that depends on the state. The also run the state militia units to use a more common vernacular. Some states in the South (Texas for example) are much more limited, as a reaction to Reconstruction after the Civil War. In Texas the most powerful position is the Lieutenant Governor (Vice President in a sense).

No. A governor is a central favor collection agency and the one who gives out all the contracts and good jobs. At work we were talking about expanding the jail to include a "governor's wing."

From Slate's Explainer:
Even if Blagojevich makes his pick before any state-level action can be taken, the buck stops with the U.S. Constitution, which states: "Each House shall be the judge of the elections, returns and qualifications of its own members." That leaves the final say up to the discretion of the U.S. Senate in Washington. There have been five cases in which the Senate has refused to recognize an appointee (although all but one occurred before the 17th Amendment and the direct election of senators). In 1912, the Senate concluded that a 33-year-old businessman named William Lorimer had obtained his seat (three years earlier) through bribery and corruption. The would-be lawmaker hailed from the great state of Illinois.

Lol turns out this guy didn't like Obama much.
In Chicago on Tuesday, U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald said prosecutors were making no allegations that Obama was aware of any scheming. And Blagojevich himself, in taped conversations cited by prosecutors, suggested Obama wouldn't be helpful to him. Even if the governor was to appoint a candidate favored by the Obama team, Blagojevich said, "they're not willing to give me anything except appreciation."
The two Illinois politicians have never been close and have largely operated in different Democratic Party camps in the state. Blagojevich's disdain for Obama was clear in court documents; he is quoted as calling the president-elect a vulgar term in one phone conversation recorded by the FBI.

This will pretty much be a race to see if the State Congress can pass legislation to give themselves emergency powers of nomination. Otherwise the appointment will just fall to Pat Quinn, and this whole thing will shake out in about the same way politically. There will probably be some heat on Obama, but Blago has been roundly discredited by Illinois politicians of all stripes for quite some time now. So it is unlikely that anything will really stick.

How long would it take the Blag to nominate someone? He could still do it tomorrow, if he so pleased.
