i am not doing anything to do with 40k right now. the only people who play are two of my cousins who aren't allowed to play beacause their parents think it creates anger problems and is making them aggressive and are forced to sell their miniatures. and the closest gw is over an hour away. (north side atlanta) and i cant drive so thats a problem.
and i am broke and do not have the supplies to paint my $150 worth of nids i have sitting around. and the only gamer population plays dnd, munchkin, and some 40k nascar cross breed. please do not ask about the 40k nascar i have no idea either. so please tell me what you would do if you where in my situation.

The only person I might be able to play a 40K battle with is not likely to do so, because he has demonstrated on many occasions the inability to have a conversation about anything but D&D. My FLGS has been taken over by flames of war and the other one I might go to closed down. I thinking of becoming one of those crazy shut-ins with a hundred cats and stacks of newspapers everywhere.

I guess its time to make the brave leap and look for some friends/random people who want to play. Or you could just sit on the army and wait till you have more money or get older and move. I started 40k when I was 15. Didn't have a ton of cash, and didn't really know anyone who played. So I sat on my armies for a good 4 years. Then bam, more cash flow and a new city. Now I stop into the FLGS about once a week and couldn't be happier.

Brushes, primer and a few pots of paint/washes don't cost that much. While your sitting on your hands waiting for a change of scenery you could paint all your stuff. Then when you do find that store that has people playing you can say "Hey I have a painted up Nids army, want a game?" and they'll be like "Well... I haven't painted all my stuff, but sure" and then you'll get awesome sports scores because your stuff is painted... err wait...

Just paint 'em bro

I find myself in a similar position. I havent played a game since 4th edition, and it wasnt even with one of my own armies. I just dont have anyone around that I can play with regularly within a comfortable distance. What do I do? Paint. Ive painted approx. 1000pts chaos and 250 pts. orks to the best standard I can in the last 4 months. It kinda sucks, but Im just biding time until my situation changes. 40k is a fun game, but there is more to the hobby then just playing.

Also, I have, with little success, been trying to up my post count on this forum. Its fun, hobby related, and occupies a short attention span. Its beyond me how some people get 300+ posts in a week, I cant manage that many in years, but I will find out how they do it.

Regarding painting: Try craft paints: apple barrel and cheap brushes from Michael's or hobby lobby (especially with the coupon) will take you pretty far for a pittance, and before you balk, many gamers use craft paints (check the Miniatures Page).

Regarding gaming: try to organize a demo or event at the store (perhaps the store can help? Do they have demo armies? Even just painted up AOBR or BFM boxed sets?) to drum up interest. And while you wait, perhaps get in on that D&D or Munchkin group and see if they'd be interested. Don't feel like you need to play 2000 points either, sometimes 500 point games can be enough fun.

Also, ask if the store has a forum, yahoo/google group, bulletin board or other 'opponent finder' and see if you can meet someone or if the store knows of a league in the area.

Good luck!

Regarding posting: it became a habit when I wasn't playing. Now I try to
fit painting, posting AND playing. Oddly enough, very little of it is 40k.

Vasal. It is an online utility that lets you simulate a tabletop 40k game. Use that and Ventrillio and you should be set. Kinda wonky at first for not too bad. I played it alot in 4th Ed. When I was stationed over seas. Others bought and had their mini's shipped to them but I didn't want to risk it.

Do a search for Vassal 40k or 40k online and it should lear you in the right direction. I won't link to another forum in this one...kinda tacky.

Make some terrain. PVA, cheap paint, scissors/hobby knife, scrap materials, a bit of imagination and some time are all that is required to make several table's worth of terrain! At the minute it sounds like you have an abundance of the rarest of all commodities for the hobbyist - time! So get off your arse and use it boyo!

Also, lack of funds isn't an issue if you can ask for paint and brushes for Christmas.

Once you have a nice terrain collection and a painted army you won't need a local store to play in - you can have friends round to play on your dining room table/floor/basement. You'll find it a lot easier to entice friends into the hobby if you have a decent army and some nice terrain to offer to play them on. Of course a second army for them to use might be nice, but you can't have everything..!

Why don't you offer to run a D&D game, but make all of the monsters Tyranids.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.
