This is an all-comers approach at a fairly aggressive DIY Chapter The Gray Crusaders, using BA codex. I'm trying to get the biggest bang out of my 1000 points, even though I've heard it's hard to get a good
HQ -

Chaplain Tygleris (just a basic chaplain, named for fluff)
jump pack
Total: 120

Troop -

10 man tactical squad - Lance & Shield
-lascannon
-plasma gun
-power fist
Total: 250

10 man tactical squad - Flail & Shield
-power fist
-plasma cannon
-plasma gun
Total: 245

5 man assault squad - Templar's Squire
-power fist
Total: 165

Elite -

Terminator Assault Squad - 200
-thunder hammers and storm shields

The Templar's Guild (Death Company) deployed with Chaplain 4 free units
-jump packs
Total: 20

1000 points

Sorry for the extra bits of fluff. The fluff aspect is really important to my overall theme. That's why I'm using an honour guard instead of another assault squad. I figure if I'm short on scoring units, I can combat squad my tactical marine squads in to their offensive and defensive units.

Ah. Well then, that doesn't change a whole lot. I end up with 4 5-man teams, two that hop in razorbacks and go for a ride.

At 1000 Pts, I would rather have more scoring units.
My suggestion would be to lose the terminators for assault marines. Not as buff but more mobile. If you can manage 2 5-mans (Sgt with PF or PW) you can discount your death company and have two relatively fast scoring units. The downside of course is 5-man squads make for easier kP but then again so do rhinos/razorbacks.

I would also save points on the chaplain, leave off the PF and live with the PW you get for free. Lemarts with Jump Pack is 125 so why not. -1 Ld on opponent is not bad.

Vet Assault Marines with 2 Flamers would do great for anti-hoard but of course not a scoring unit but built in mobility is nothing to sneeze at.

Alright, updated the unit a bit. I think everything is still in tact. This also leaves me at 1k

Ok well you have to take off the indivual point costs, because sometime GW get there knickers in a twist over it, looks good.

Death company are small, therefore vulnerable, and FNP can let you down when you least expect it.

Hrm. That's normally understandable, don't want people getting codex access for free... the thing is... the Blood Angels codex IS free. Oh well, I took them down anyway, I just had them there in case I mathed wrong and somebody caught it.

This is a really great list but I would switch out all power swords to power weapons. The Space Marine power fist is one of the greatest weapons in the game ever.

It's a nice thought, but I just don't have the points for it. For the extra points to bump up to some PFs, I'd have to get rid of a rhino or a DC unit.

I would drop one DC Marine for the power fists.

Hrm... it is 35 points a marine, after the jump packs... I suppose those points would be enough to upgrade two power swords in to power fists, and maybe enough left over to give an assault squad a flamer.

Alright. That thar's my list. For now, at least.

Also, I'm wondering how I can split this up for smaller games of 500. My friends all tend to have small armies ready to do tiny multi-player games. I'm thinking about 3 squads of 5 man tactical squads, with a flamer in each, keeping Lemartes, and 3 free Death Company marines with jump packs.

BA can beat down anything. You just have to optimise your list.

Alright. I've determined that my freaking rhinos are worthless. With no 3+ armor saves, and a gak load of gauss weapons firing at me, they are just to squishy. I cashed them in for points, and changed an assault squad to an armor guard, and used the extra points to beef up my other units. Plasma Cannon and Gun for piercing through necron armor, and lascannon for piercing through EVERYTHING ELSE! Jump packs all over the place for deep striking and getting in close. This list is MUCH better for my fluff.

Necron gauss weapons cannot penetrate rhinos but they can SHRED power armor.

Troops without transports is like school in summer time. Your lads humping it across the board are going to be mauled by gauss weapons.

The problem with Necrons now is that they must rely upon Warriors. I guess that is okay but it seems like a major crimp to me.
