I was wondering if having 6 units of 30 orks each with a nob with a power klaw and then either 3 big shootas or 3 rokkits would work well. That with a big mek with a force field to protect at least 4 of the units is around 1500 points. So would this list work well? Why or why not? Also to up it to 2000 points what would you add?

It's pure filth. I played a list like this in 'Ard Boyz. If you are going up to 2000 points, you need 2 trukks full of MANZ to soften things up/Go after artillery. At least, that's what I did and did pretty well. Also, Looted Wagons with Boomguns to drop blast templates on your skumgrods!

The problem with what to arm them with lies in what troops type you pick. If you pick sluggaz, you should be running so forget adding heavy weapons. If you choose shootaz...make Big Shootaz and Rokkits, 3 per squad but be sure to be redundant. If you use rokkits in one squad, use rokkits in all of them. That should be ok anti tank, nothing to write home about. 1 hit per squad on the average.

Another thing to consider, if you take shootaz...make them squads of 20, and put them into battlewagons. Put a KFF Mek in the center BW, with reach to all of them. 6" within the hull of the KFF Battlewagon gives Obscured to all of the Battlewagons. Hellooooo 4+ cover save for vehicles!
The BW should still be moving, only arm it with Big Shootaz, 2 is good. Deffrolla is AWESOME!!

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness.

Its a viable build, but unless you are really fast in setting up and moving 180 orks, you probably won't finish games if you playing in tournaments. If you're going with 180 boys, stick with boyz and waste your enemies High AP weapons on 6 point boys. You can finish out your army with some other cheap units: Kannon artilleries. Large squads of Kommandoes.

Oh and with on KFF, if you place your mobs right, you should be able to get all 6 mobs a 5+ save.

Have you considered taking Eldrad as an HQ?

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

I totally read this as "...having 6 squads of 30 orks each and a N00b with a Powerklaw..."

yeah... anyway, get lootas and a warboss in there and you have a very cookie cutter ork mob list.

Personally, I would advise against it, as SO many people are playing against the ork mob+loota list right now, that people are developing very good tactics to mitigate the power of it.

I'd mix it up a little more, get some bikes, some kommandos, Trukk boys, or stormboys in there.

I am new (very new) to 40k. I was just wondering how a list like that would work. I have read in other post how the standard boy at 6 points is the best thing you can have in your list. I like the idea of trucks but they look so fragile and I cant see them getting across the table. Plus it is just 12 guys so the mob rule would not last long. So would you run like 3 trucks and 3 mobs of boys?

Tied and gagged in the back of your car

The idea with the trukks is that you get in as fast as you can, unload your cargo, and charge the hell out of your enemy's weak-spots before they get a chance to move out. Trukks are freaking fast. They may not last long, but they're not meant to. They're meant to get in as fast as possible, dump, and get the hell out(be it in a pile of scraps or driving off, it's all the same thing).

So would you drive the max on your first turn? Just scream straight at them?

Depending on deployment, that's what I do. But, it's what you put in the trukks that counts. I put Mega Armored Nobz and 'Ard Boys in trukks. That way, I don't have much to worry about if the trukk gets popped...and it will get popped If, for some reason, it doesnt....well, you just got a roaming terrain piece with a Big Shoota on it! Or keep it around, in case you need the MANZ somewhere else later. But by taking a trukk, you really are looking for that big 18" movement first turn. I always smile when it's Dawn of War deployment and I have first turn. I know my trukks are going to fly up 12", deploy, then charge another 6" for a first turn assault. People don't like it when that happens.

By putting a couple units in trukks, you get a very versatile unit that can tie up something nasty and shooty, punch vehicles into orbit, grab objectives, or sit in cover, waiting to countercharge. If you use regular boyz in trukks, always use them in tandem. They are a fragile unit, and will be open to shooting. By combining your charge with 2 of them, you are a fancy wilderbeast.

Hmmm. I know it sounds stupid but wouldn't shooty armies simply mow you down before you get in range?
Also LR's/leman russes are going to be problematic.
