There best used with an assult cannon. Soften them up with it then wipe them out in combat, i usually take a libriarian with gate of infinity for increased mobilty. This combination has won me a few of games and is quite fun to play with.

I don't think termies without any upgrades are any good. You take them to give them upgrades and specialize them. Otherwise they don't really kill anything exceptionally better. The powerweapons help and the combi-bolters help but to be really good they need some good upgrades.

A good squad. At risk of getting ganked @ I1 vs power weps although a 5++ can mitigate that. Obviously a 3++ is better & thunderhammers make you pay when you get down to I1 phase.
A vanillia tac squad is pretty poor but with a mere 20pts, the las/plas combo is awesome.

because of their high point cost and high target profile, terminators need to be used judiciously.
To think that 2+ armor makes them significantly more durable has left them to become the guys given the task to charge out into open lanes of fire, supported only by their armor.
Vanilla termies are versatile, and durable. But this has led to them taking on much more than they can chew.
When you move them into your opponents cross hairs, make sure that there are other targets. This leads to tricky choices, as far as target prioritization, and eventually your opponent will make mistakes.
That is how I use termies. I've never earned back my points with them, but I make sure that they, and at least 2 other units, are in a position where they can. Termies are a threat that must be dealt with, and that is what makes them strong.

Deepstrike, they draw fire from the enemy. And aslong you can play them right and keep them alive, they will assault and shoot the enemy objective, at leasts that would be my plan if I played SM with Termies.

Termis are for fire support. But they can also countercharge if need be. Use like a tact squad. AC neccesary.

I don't really define Tau as a primarily shooty force though.
It's a force that places the shot that counts well. They are a force that can move into the best positions for their shots and adds quality to those attacks.
True, everything shoots, but it's generally not a quanitity type of shooting and more quality shooting.
Apart from the fact that is kinda a primarily shooting army ;-), it is one of the most well constructed points regarding tau iv heard in a while. |
