Subject: Interesting Tyranid Idea (draft)

Morally-Flexible Malleus Hearing Whispers

Inspired in part by the Dawn of War II threads, and in part by my own attempts to make interesting Tyranid lists, I have an idea for a Tyranid FoC.
This is the first draft.
Similiar to what you would find in an RPG or an RTS you have ... I don't know what to call them. Call them build points.
I am going to say that at ... 1000/1250 point game level you start with:
Psionic 0
Close Combat 0
Ranged Combat 0
Movement 0
Size 0
And you get ... x points for every 250 points you add to the game. Then each unit and their upgrades has a limitation.
First, upgrades.
Psionic 1 gives you a second spell for your Hive Tyrant. Psionic 2 gives you Zoanathropes, Warriors? can take Catalyst, Warpfield and maybe a couple other spells. Psionic 3 and Zoanathropes and Hive Tyrants can cast 2 spells and maybe there is a uber power for Hive Tyrants. Or maybe there is a Hive Tyrant Special Character you can take if you max your Psionic and Size points.
Close Combat 1 point gives Bone Swords, Rending Claws, Acid Maws, Bio plasma, etc. 0 points starts you with Lash Whips, Scything Talons and maybe something else. 2 points gives Crushing Claws. If you commit 3 points maybe you can do things like two sets of Crushing Claws or Hormagaunts with Rending Claws. That sort of thing.
Ranged Combat 0 you get Spore Mines and limited shooting on Monstrous Creatures and Warriors. 1 point and you get Termagaunts and Barbed Stranglers. 2 points you get Devourers. 3 points you get ... cheaper Gun Fexes? I do not know what to do about Enhanced Senses. Maybe 2 points and everything is +1 BS. Something similiar could be done for Close Combat points. And Biovores come in at some point. And they don't suck. Maybe they burrow into the ground and get +2 cover. There you go I fixed Biovores.
Movement 1 gives you Fleet, as it is. Movement 2 gives access to Wings. Movement 4? Could go all the way to Carnifexes that move as Beasts.
Size is needed for Monstrous Creatures. Commit enough Size points and you could get a Carnifex with say 1 Structure Point.
So I just thought this was cool. And then for every 250 points you get say 2 more points. So in a small game you are dealing with Warriors and Gaunts. In larger games you start seeing Zoanathropes.
I do now know where play testing for points costs would come in. There is obviously room for abuse, giving the entire army a free upgrade to BS3, but then a shooty army would take that upgrade anyway so.
But I think is a cool draft. It creates some new rules and new variety and solves some problems like giving Melee Carnis a boost. The real question is if there are better ways to do things.
Thing is, once you had this you would do away with the FoC somehow. Or rather certain units would become Troop but not others.

Or maybe, better there could be a basic army for each point level. So Termagaunts, Hormagaunts, etc, etc. But when you spend your points you get access to better units. So if you will do without Raveners, for instance, you can have big tank Carnifexes.

Interesting. This would work GREAT with Aspect Warriors, too.

One means the Mechanicum truly loses their gak, and the other means the Eldar realize that Vaul is really a toaster and experience religion fail.
Techmarine Mario and Brother Adept Luigi to the rescue !
I think it is a small fraction of Jesus worshiping Christians who have psychic powers.

I was thinking that, bringing the Craftworlds back. I could do one for Space Marines, too although I do not know about Chaos. Chaos is more everything goes.

Chaos of course gets points to spend on the four powers, or undivided. So khorne gives more melee power and anti-psyker, nurgle better survivability etc...
With enough points spent for one power you would get access to dedicated units such as berserkers, followed by khorne terminators, and then a greater deamon.
I really like this idea. Will keep an eye on this thread for continued ideas.

Maybe more like levels of Nurgle. So
Nurgle
+1 T
FNP
+1 W for certain units
Khorne
+1 A
+1 WS
+1 S for certain units
...
