If I have a full 10 man tac squad
can I take a razorback and split the unit into 2 combat squads, and then put one of the combat squads into said razorback during deployment?

My instinct says no but I keep on hearing different opinions on this. Can anyone confirm one way or another

You can if you're really as tasty as a dumpling. Otherwise I don't know.

Yes. I think the DA faq clears this one up.

Clearly answered on page 66 of the Warhammer 40,000 5th edition rulebook, second paragraph under the heading 'Transport Capacity'.

You can only get one dedicated transport for the complete Tac Squad.
Once on the table (as long as you follow the rules Ghaz mentioned) you are free to embark on any trasport.

Actually, You can take a Razorback/Rhino and a Drop Pod for a Tactical Squad in the new SM codex. Yes its beardy, but its legal.

In DA, yes. In normal SM, no, you cannot deploy a combat squad in a razorback. You must delineate how units in reserve are mounted in transports when they are kept in reserve, but the option to combat squad occurs when they are actually deployed onto the table - so until that point you have a unit of ten men, and cannot choose to keep them in reserve in the Razorback. Now, at deployment, you could move a combat squad into the razorback, of course.

Also, if you have chosen to transport that unit by droppod, then you can't combat squad them, because you can't have multiple units (each combat squad would become their own unit) in one transport. in other words, at the time you set your transport options for reserves, you choose whether to include the entire unit, or none of the unit, in the transport.

This is incorrect. The rules for drop pods in the Codex: Space Marines quite clearly state that force selections able to combat squad coming down in a drop pod make their combat squad decision the moment the pod lands.

Isnt that to come out of the pod as 10, or as 2 5s though?

Your choice of the two. Either one 10 man squad, or 2 5 man units.

Ah, sorry. Overlooked the more specific rule in the drop pod rules. Yes, you are right.
