Im trying to choose between High Elves and Wood Elves and just cant decide, I'm going to write the pros and cons for each army then you can vote for which one suits me more and I'lle go with whatever one gets the most.

High Elves: PRO: I love all the High Elf miniatures expept the Archers and the Ellyrian Reavers. PRO: Theres lots of Dark Elf players in our gaming store so finding a battle couldnt be hard. PRO: I really like the fluff too. CON: I dont like there skirts or armour thingy like this http://oz.games-workshop.com/games/warhammer/highelves/catalog/swordmasters.htm, is it like really lightweight armour thats flexible too or hard armour so there wearing skirts. BIG CON: I dont like it how the High Elves are sort of well... Full of themselves and overconfident they sound from the background like there the really proud of themselves and dont really care for the other races that much. CON: I rekon it'de be hard coming up with my own colour scheme for them which I usually like doing.

the type of armor they wear are known as chain linked mail. its lighter , allows more movement,
stops penetration to a degree.

how ever, unlike plate armor, mail armor have no resistance against a blunt impact.

as for worried about few amount of miniature you don't like their look, you can always convert them!

if you pick high elf over wood elf at least you'll be special!

Personally I'd go HEs, but I like to be more agressive with my gaming. WEs are to stand offish for my liking.

Well, High Elves have a newer dex, and newer models. Course I like the wood elves models better, and seeing that I mostly model and not play. I'd say Wood Elves.

Hmm, if you don't care for the models, go with the High Elves. You'll never get through building and painting an army if you don't like the models

Judging on what you've already said, I'd say High Elves are for you.

As for the High Elves being full of themselves, yes, they are. But it's not in the same manner as humans who have far too much pride. It's kind of hard to explain. They simply see other races as barbaric, and by default, they are more civilized to their own eyes. It's more of a matter of blissful ignorance than anything else. I don't know why it matters a lot anyway, as I'd rather be painting up and playing a bunch of prideful bastards than a ton of models that I don't even like (not to mention following a crowd).

Skirts? Well....High Elves do like their skirts, don't they? Yes, the skirts, for the most part, are supported by chainmail. Though if you like the models enough to forgive them for this, it shouldn't be that big of a deal.

As for coming up with your own color scheme, it's really not that difficult. I'd say they can look good in any given color, if done right. Armor doesn't necessarily always have to be metallic, and High Elves don't always have to follow the white blue and gold scheme. You know what I would like to see? Throw in some black with your High Elves paint scheme. Throw some people off.

Wood Elves vs. High Elves

1. High Elves have cool plastic hero and mage kits.
   
2. Wood Elves have fantastic hero and mage metals. Except maybe Crapping Wizard
   
3. Due to forest movement and ability to shoot and move at no penalty, and skirmishing units, Wood Elves have a maneuver advantage.
   
4. High Elves can make up for #3 by Always Striking First (Wood Elves maneuver for combined charges, High Elves just position to take or give a charge)
   
5. High Elves have artillery.
   
6. Wood Elves have big tough Treeman and Treeman Ancient.
   
7. Wood Elf heroes are customizable through magic items AND kindreds. You can make a hero an Alter, or a Wardancer, for example.
   
8. High Elf heroes have access to some really nice magic items.
   
9. Wood Elves have a difficult time building static combat res.
   
10. Treekin models are fugly (okay, this one is opinion)
    
11. Wood Elves have more access to units that are Immune to Psychology
    
12. However, Immune to Psychology doesn't always matter if they're up against big ranks of Fear causing models (tough to beat Static Combat Res)
    
13. Bait and flee can be expensive for Wood Elves. Cheapest method is the Eagle, but they take up a valuable Rare slot that you could use for a Treeman. High Elves get more Rare slots and thus can field both Artillery and Eagles in numbers. Other bait and flee options take more points for the Wood Elves (about 100).
    
14. Wood Elf Special characters have nothing on the High Elf set. Nothing. Lists are built around Teclis and Korhil and whatnot.
    
15. Wood Elves have more Core choice options.
    
16. High Elves have more Special choice options due to their special army composition rules
    
17. If you want Chariots, you have to use High Elves.
    
18. It you're constrained by rules that reward high Core selections by percentage (I was in one such tournament. They gave no special considerations for High Elves), then it's easier to fill those Core points with Wood Elves unless you're using lots and lots of High Elf spearmen.
    
19. High Elf units have access to really effective magic items and magic banners. In fact, I think magic banners are a requirement for the expensive to field units.
    
20. Wood Elves can hold more ground when playing table quarters since they'll tend to have more units than High Elves and more of them will move as skirmishers.
    
21. The High Elf Fast Cavalry choice is metal. Their medium cavalry seems tricky to use.
    

Some comments on your requirements:

1. Elven chain is just one of those "things" that go with the lore. Remember the sexy nightie that Frodo wore under his tunic? Yeah, that.
   
2. All Elven races are full of themselves. Wood Elves are aggressive and full of themselves, High Elves are aloof and full of themselves, Dark Elves are sadistic and full of themselves (and literally Hate everybody).
   
3. Models over army style, though I hate to tell you that in case you end up actually playing with them.
   
4. What don't you like about the Wood Elf models? I disliked certain things, but they eventually grew on me.
   

Pretty much do you like Dragons? Then its high Elves, do you like being able to stay in place and still win? Then its high elves, Do you like to have wickedly awsome cavalry and elite choices? Then its high elves. For everything else theres Master Card.

Coming from a High Elf player: Do you like to see a glittering wall of silvery steel? If so, take the HE without a doubt. If you don't like the skirt thing, then um...yeah.

Wood Elves are more along the lines of "Elfy-elf." With bows and whatnots.

The High Elf spearmen are ugly too, and you may get sick of painting white... Of course you don't have to, but they lend themselves well to a neat, clean paintjob and little else. If the modelling aspect is important to you, you may want to try out something more forgiving. Like Wood Elves.
They do depend on a lot of shoot-evade-shoot-restrictmarch-shoot, so if you'd rather get stuck in and choppy, High Elves are the superior. Since there are already a lot of WE players, that's another reason. Both have great potential though; what are your thoughts so far?

high elf spearman are indeed ugly... their oddly angled spear arms, their ugly helmet and their ugly chain skirt.

i wonder if they'll be replaced anytime soon :/
