Something necron this way comes...

And look, by Jove, it's walking upright!

The gauss flayer looks extremely cool.

However, the Necron kind of seems like he's just aimlessly loitering around, or maybe posing for a picture (hahah). Also, it looks like he's holding the flayer up pretty high to just be standing there like that.

I'd say if you convert more upright Necrons, they should at least be stalking forward, as if they were confronting their enemy (their only purpose). I think that would look completely awesome.

I agree with Chrysaor on this one.
Awesome job on the flayer, but the guys stance is looking a bit bland atm. Just pointing the flayer forward cool give it a way different look imho.

Looking forward to more.

I see your points guys, this was just a test mini for the conversion though, I have some more stalky stuff here, and coming up. And methinks that some conversion of the arms will be in order soonish, yay, more pinning :(

Lord, will get a sort of a cowl, and a orb in his chest cavity, surrounded by some sort of a holding mechanism (ressurection orb)

and the basing stuff, super sculpy, baked in a sheet, and then necron symbols were scratched in with a sculpting tool.

I like it. I like the upright pose and I like the gun too. Very nice.

nice idea and nice change to the basic troop.

try adding more wire so it extends beyond the end of the barrel to give it a slightly more dynamic feel. that way you say things like "don't cross the stream!" while you're playing

look forward to seeing how your project comes along.

take care

Rotating the head is harder then it sounds, because firstly of the pistons on the neck of the necron, hinder movement from side to side, and secondly because the head is set at an angle, means that even when you remove the pistons the head is too long to move from side to side unless you extend the neck, something which I have done with these two. I will add some crackles of energy coming out of the barrel when I do some that look like they are firing (if repositioning the arms that much is possible :s) but it looks a bit silly when what is essentially a blast from the gun is coming out when the necron is clearly not aiming or firing

Walking necron, this is the pose I've been trying to get all along, and am really pleased that I finally managed it, even if it was a bloody pain to do

Necron raising himself from the sand, guess what, yup, this pose is as it is because I lost his left foot after slicing it off

And now for the main point of the update, I've finished my lord conversion and am really pleased with it. It always bothered me slightly that the lord looked exactly like the warriors, he's even smaller too I could have left it as it was the last time I showed him here, but I decided to convert him even more, and more, and more :p I had great fun just playing around with the model and making it something more distinctive So I added a cowl thing and necklace whatsit like the picture of the necron lord on page 16 of the codex. It doesn't show up terribly well, but I even sculpted on the "lord symbol" thing onto the main bit in the trinket, damn that was fiddly work. I converted the torso quite a lot to make it look more ornate, like the Pariahs, and the ball thing is a ressurection orb, built into him. I also bulked out the torso, and then the legs as it was looking a bit top heavy at that point, and added a pec to his torso. Enough talk though, picture

Oh, and a scarab swarm

What gauges do you use for pinning?

Those feet have to be a major pain to do. I say this as I stare at a Necron Warrior, and I can't imagine how hard that would be to get to work.

EDIT: A little OT, but those Necrons must be twice as tall as a Space Marine!

A very nice Lord conversion! One thing I might consider changing is the right hand. If you'd change it so it's pointing 'up', it would create the feeling that he's ordering more troops to rise from the sands and would look a lot more commanding and less like he's giving directions...

The upright warriors are pretty cool too; will you do something similar with destroyers and wraiths?

Thanks guys Got some scarabs painted, testing the scheme and stuff, they took about an hour, which will have to be improved upon, but I was figuring out colours and methods etc. lol

Some people might disagree, but I'm not a big fan of the gold/bronze next to the eyes. It would be cool to see how you translate this scheme to your warriors though, then I can make a definite comment if it works. But they are very nicely painted.

Hmm, I like, it, and the warriors won't be getting it, I just thought it would look good on the scarabs, alrtough the lord will probably get a gold skull to make him stand out. I'm not really using gold for my warriors, only for the unit markings which will be on the face:

I like the converting you've done, and I think the paintjob is very neat, but (there's always a but ) I don't like the blue head. It doesn't attract enough attention to it. Maybe trying a lighter colour might help?

I was hoping you could pull off the gauss effect with the painting, and you certainly have. These are suh-weet! Best Necrons I've seen in a long time.

But they do look like they're crying. Maybe if you made the squad marking more like an eye tatoo that's so fashionable with the kids these days. Like this:

Excellent scheme. The dark blue looks awesome. And the flayer looks even more convincing when painted. Keep the scarabs as they are. I think the bronze/ gold looks good there.
