Resentful Grot With a Plan

Almere - Netherlands

Hi and Welcome to my Rebellion.

I decided to give IG another try, but this time a bit different Inspired by Proiteus Awesome Rebel Grots

I made a test grot some time ago “the saluting one in the pics” and never looked at it again, until recently, after playing Wolf wing for 3 tournaments,
I wanted to start with an all out Jump army, while looking for my marine bits I found the grot again,
which made me realize that I did not want to play another Marine army for some time.

So I started brainstorming.
I want this army to be Low Tech/ Steampunkish
So you will be seeing a lot of Empire stuff, (steam powered; weapons, vehicles, airships) If I mange to model the ideas I have that is.

While surfing the net for vehicles Ideas, I found this Gattling Tank
And decided that, I want to base the Hydra’s on this concept. I started building yesterday evening and came up with this.

It’s far from finished, I’ll be using 2 Helblaster Volley guns as the AA Auto cannons,
I’m still waiting for bits to arrive when I get the volley guns I can dry fit them and see if my idea can be modeled.

For Chimera’s I’ll be using Leman Russ Hulls, with a Battlewagon grot turret.
I received the first hull this afternoon and started building and this is where it stands at the moment.
(it will be driving “backwards”)
And Another one

Last week I started on some other Grots, I’ve made a start on my Commander or Officer of the fleet (haven’t decided yet) he could be both.

And some more pics Here and here

I hope to receive all my bits this week so I can continue to work on my vehicles, and start making new Grots.

Advise, Suggestions, Criticisms anything more than welcome.
Thanks for looking.

Cheers,

Bra’tac

The Commissar grot is simply too cool! You must find a way to model his arms with hands clasped behind his back. And don't forget the stick!

Forge World may be calling about Grot tanks any minute now, but perhaps that's too obvious - or too expensive.

That's a good question, I don't really know. It just seems. . . right.

Looking good, always nice to see another grot rebellion! If you need more heads, micro-arts studios make some nice goblin heads with WWII type helmets and commissar caps. They're a tad bigger then grot's heads though, but I think they'll still look good.

Looking good so far. Its the inventiveness thats possible that attracts me to armies like this. Good luck with the brainstorming

Regarding head size, Grots are so deformed that it really shouldn't matter

Will you go for the (by now traditional) soviet theme or will you go somewhere else? (Chinese, Cuban, Birmingham?)

It's not a commissar he will be either my General or my officer of the fleet (haven't decided yet), I also thought about sculpting the arms behind his back, and holding a stick would be anwsome as well, will have to see if i can pull that of.... now that 2 people believe he should be modelled that way Ill say, challenge accepted!

I do like the Grot Tanks but they are too small to count as any of the Guard Tanks, I have no sentinels in my list, I would have used them as sentinels, if i where to field them.

I have some of the MAS Goblins Heads, and will be using them, I use a mix of Grot and Goblin heads, like Flinty said Grots are Deformed

I not going for the Soviet theme, It will be a mix of various, the main theme steampunk/dieselpunk Grot style, I do want all Stroops to have Helmets and like a grot I don't care where it comes from, Sgt's, and officers will have caps or special helmets.

A small update, I have been working on the First Chimera tonight

The turret got a "multi Laser"

and She got Tracks

And a shot from the front

Now that the tracks are inplace I can start adding the rest of the stuff, (haven't decided what stuff) Suggestions?

And a question, Does anyone know where I can still get the Old IG Tank Track Wheels? today I found out that the new kits no longer use them.... and I still need to build 3 Chimera's

Like it so far. But the tank looks odd. It might look better if you turn the gun the other way around, so that the raised track part is at the front not the back. I don't know, but it just doesn't look right for me. Good work on the rest though.

Very creative, must watch this get built. Nice chimera, very WWI-esque. Loving the general grot.

Looking good! Depending on how realistic you want it to look: rl tanks need some clearance on the front to be able to scale obstacles. Might be what makes it ook odd to Scrazza.

This is the best compliment ever! It's what I aimed for, it's a grot tank after all, IRL it would have difficulties with speedbumps, it's a good thing that grots aren't real

CommissarKhaine wrote:Looking good! Depending on how realistic you want it to look: rl tanks need some clearance on the front to be able to scale obstacles. Might be what makes it ook odd to Scrazza.

Thanks, I want them to be as realistic as grots would make them, (so basically I want them to look like (Man talking against a grot euhm... excuse me but, you know that's not going to work right?, the grot looking up, then ignores the man and continues working on his vehicle, the man then facepalms and walks away, only to find him self staring at the grot when he passes by with a fully functional vehicle, BIG ME coming from the speakers the grot smilling and holding a roll of FOOTOS............

I've been working on the Chimera tonight. (still waiting for my bits to arrive!!)

first a shot from the top, She has a Heavy flamer now, a hatch for the driver, a "window" so he can see where he's going. an exhaust, a door and some armour plates

Here's a close up of the front

I've started weathering the front as you can see, I saw this done on a Submarine on a dutch model forum, I liked it so grabbed my dremel and tried it myself, it's a bit rough but should be ok after some sanding.

A shot from the right rear, best I could do too show the Steam tank exhaust pipe.

And last a shot from the scratchbuild door, I copied a rhino side door with plasticard and I must say that I'm quite pleased with the result

That's it for this Year, If everything goes well you can expect an update next week

so HAPPY NEW YEAR, see you next year!

would that be Gork or Mork or perhaps Bork? or one I don't know of?

here's a small update.

I present you Offica of da Fleet

I made this Gnoblar Pirate in 2009 for Pirate day, but never painted him, he's now joining my rebellion as Offica of da fleet.

Next up, some of the Veteran grots

and some more pics here and here

Instead of steampowerd Lasguns I decided to go for Tesla powered lasguns
here's a concept backpack

I want to run a wire from the coil to the weapons they are holding. still waiting for the empire handgun bits to come in.

Here's some progress pics on the Chimera.

I have added some bits and armour plates.
I also started weathering the Track Wheels and the sides where the Tank Tracks scrape the side armour. I can't get the right light to take proper pics so ill owe you some detailed pics.

C&C welcome as always,
Thanks for looking,

UPDATE!!!!

Sitting at home sick,..... digging through my bits trying to find bits that could work with my tanks but not finding it, I was about to give up until.....EUREKA Terrain bits Aegis Defense turret for the win!!!!. I completely had forgotten about having this set, immediately started working on possible ways to resemble the Hydra turret with it. 30 minutes later all required bits where assembled and dry fitted.
An hour maybe 1,5 hour later I ended up with this. (Still requires detailing)

Do you feel lucky? Well do ya?

The idea was to put this on the Gatling tank concept I made, but it looks totally...... so I put in on top of the Chimera/Russ unfortunately this combo give's the model a total height of 9 centimeters "almost 4 inch" but it's so cool, Grot RUZZBOT!!

The other problem being that I can't get hold of enough Track Wheels to build all my tanks, must find others ways to obtain them, anyone offering Track wheels? It's for a good cause

Thanks for looking,

Update time,

I have started riveting the Chimera (pics once I’m done with that)
I have started working on my 2 Medusa's pics of the 1 on which I have done the most work.
I also started on my PBS known as the Weirdlings.

So enough talk on to the pics

Medusa

The hole in the front is where the hull Heavy Bolter will come.

The left side panel is still lose, I'm waiting for the cannons to arrive, the cannons will be coming on the left open side, I can't continue without the cannons at the moment,

And here are my first two Weirdlings (psykers)

They have Anglerfish kind of "Rods" as I couldn't find anything about goblin shamans in 40k I decided that these are slowly turning to Chaos (hence the "rod" mutation) I'm still thinking about what to use as Overseer, Thinking about Bagpipe Squig herder or Squig herder with trident, Idea's?

Good use of a BW cockpit, though I feel the back could be extended a bit. The squig herders are definitely a logical (and good!) idea for the overseer; failing that, an inquisitor stand-in would also add some character.

i'm not sure if I want to extend it a bit, I was inspired by this L-33 Roem and like the compact look, I think If I would extent the back it won't look good. Will see when the cannons arrive, then I can determine their possition and see what else has to be done.

and Inquistor stand-in...... good one, ill see if i can start building one tonight.

I have started working on the 2nd Chimera,

enough talking here's some pics.
