Borik rubbed the frost from the porthole, peering out into the empty void of space. or what should have been an empty void. a dark and horrible maw, impossibly huge, hung over the world they orbited, fire raining from deep within, scorching the surface of the world below.

Their ship, the Medingraf, was the only one remaining in the system. civilians and military had fled long ago. only on the unfathomable order of the inquisitor did they remain.

Borik shuddered, and returned to his bunk. the unearthly lights from the porthole danced like fire across the far bulkhead. in his mind's eye he could feel their heat. he sat slowly on his bunk. wiping the seat from his eyes, he tried to block out the disturbing lights dancing through his quarters, lapping like flames across the floor, and up the bunk where Haschel slept. Borik screamed as pain shot up his arm, the flames burning through his uniform, and searing his flesh. he screamed again as they covered his face, then was silent when they shot into his through and lungs. the pain, it was like nothing he had ever known, eating and tearing inside of him, shredding everything until... something shifted...

It was dark, a loud howling filled the air. Borik felt the ground he laid on. It felt strange. natural. not like a ship at all. the howling persisted, but he began t hear other noises as well. a strange clamoring, like people shouting. the shouting grew louder....

Well, I have to jump on the bandwagon. I have been very inspired by the =I=munda and broodheim logs, as you may have guessed. I am converting up a small warband to introduce to my gaming group (read: fiancée and brother), and will be using Mordheim as a base rule set. The setting is a wandering daemon world, traveling and consuming throughout the Segmentum Obscurus

I will be converting 2-3 wargangs as NPC factions. the first, a renegade spacemarine and his gang of followers, a group of religious nutters (the church of the cleansing torch), and then possibly a frenzied mob of civillians, driven to madness by the world around them.

Here is the start of the first model. Raggath, renegade brother of the Crimson Fists. he will lead a small band of mutants, desperate for their master's approval.

obviously still very WIP, but Im getting exited about this =I=munda/heim thing...

thanks for the insperation to those who have been showing their own stuff!

That marine screams "Alpha Legion" to me rather than Crimson Fist, must be the dragon symbol on his leg.

Good start, but be sure to give all the Green Stuff a good file down to smooth it out before adding detailing.

I agree with Malika in saying I don't think the dragon fits with the model, it detracts to much attention from the Chaos star on the chest plate.

Paint-wise, if you can get your hands on a copy of the previous Chaos codex, there's a squad of renegade Crimson Fists painted up near the back of the book. That might inspire you a bit.

One question though, you're planning Mutants so how'd plan on doing those?

thanks for the feedback!

the dragon symbol isnt glued, it was just set into place when the GS was still drying so I could decide if I liked it (same with the chaos symbol). upon reflection, I think you are right, it gives the marine to much of a AL feel, and I dont want to copy Migs too much.

noted on the smoothing, I fully intend to. and I do have the last ed chaos codex (and the one before that, and the PDF for the 2nd ed one). he will have CF colors, but most of the paint will be chiped away.

mutants will be random bits from my decade plus of acumulated bits. I love mutaed monstrosities. (to see some, check out my log on 40k forums. http://www.40kforums.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=51251)

again, thanks for the feedback! I will be finishing the base GSing today, and will do some smoothing if everything has cured enough. pics as soon as that is finished, and perhaps a first mutant.

Alpha Legion or Word Bearer marines are the most fitting for this sort of campaign because they are most active in the Imperium of the Traitor Legions AND they don't have that organisation stuff of having whole armies/warbands/squads always deploying at once.

yeah, if I were going for a legion, it would be word bearers. this guy's backstory involves him falling as a lone marine (about a decade prior to the campaign). I chose the crimson fists, as I generaly like them.

the mutants he travles with pretty much keep him going. fixing his armor, crafting ammo, and other mundane tasks.

Ah, I didnt even catch that... perhaps I should re-name the title

anyway, a bit of an update on Raggath. got the putty on his other leg, it is curing up now. did some detailing as well; the bolter was modified a bit, the arm was repositioned, and I gave him a head swap (one of the mutants will carry his helm).

thanks for the feedback thusfar!

I dunno...

Here is the picture from the old CSM dex that Mister Feral referred to it is basically a bitsmash of CSM and SM kits, it states that they are crimson fists who have joined the red corsairs

thanks pancake, Ill be doing something a bit more battle damaged, and the trim will be gold (I think red, blue and gold will look nice together), but that picture was probably at least partillay (subliminally?) responsible for my choice of chapters.

on another forum I was asked for a shot with a guardsman for scale, thought I would show it here too.
(pay no attention to the... 'vase'.. in the background :/ ) sanding and detailing pretty much done, to be basecoated and hopefully have some color today.

as always, thanks for the feedback, it is valued!

got some work done on 2 of his mutant band today. the little one is Twist, a tinkerer extrodinare (in non-game terms, he maintains Raggath's armor and weapons) the bigger guy (un-named so far) was the mutant boss before Raggath showed up and took over.

just recevied word on one of my players warband choice. he will be creating an istivanni (sp?) inquisitorial warband. knowing him, they will probably be fairly sinister.

Sounds very cool. I think it´s Istvaani, though I have next to no source books with me so I can´t be sure. (I feel so weak without them, but can´t bring more than 20kg on a plane....)

Will be cool to see what he does with them.

Hmm, I think the Marine would look way better with a helmet on, it would give him a more menacing and mysterious vibe. Without the helmet he almost becomes "big daddy" of a sorts. But maybe that's because of the bare head you used...

How did you make the big mutant? Is that a jaw in his stomach?

@malika2
I really only decided against the helmet because I wanted his face exposed. faces ar a weak point for me painting-wise, and I am trying to get my practice in. I've considered making him have swappable heads.

the big mutant is a possessed from Mordenheim, my little tribute to the root game. bits also included a zombie head, CSM gubbins, WHF chaos gubbins, the deffcopta blade, a necron power rod, and ork arms/hands.

A decent sized update today:
painting has begun on Raggath, but is extremely WIP.

His warband as it stands now (one member left to build0

and a very very WIP shot of another NPC band, 'the church of the coming end', and their as of yet unnamed leader. most of the band is unconverted cult of the possessed, awaiting 40k-fication.

forgot I took this closer up shot of the church leader. I love this model, had it around for ages (minus some bits my friend cut off years ago). had to strip some horible painting off. not sure how happy I am with the relic though. maybe a bit to big?

any ideas on names for this guy are welcome!

Lovely paint job Rahveel, starting to feel the vibe now. Maybe some fists symbol that has been scratched away/daubed over in blood, to show his previous loyalty?

Great job on the Chaos Marine, although I'm not sure about the bronze plates on his armor. They look a little to flat for my taste.

@trevy - yep, they are a bit flat, most of the bronze has a single inking (so far), the rest is just the base color. it will defiantly receive a lot more attention when i finish other sections.

a smallish update today, got a bit of work done on Raggath (still the only one to get a name ), including a freehanded CF's icon (just for you Xan). I also have an important question for you all, if you look at the first pic, he has his bolter arm down, in later ones, it is up. What do you like better?

also finished the last member of the warband, a mutated chaos beastie. (chaos hound in game terms)
