Hey guys - trying to come up with some ideas for a some obliterators as the title says. I'm not a huge fan of the GW models, and I'm trying to find some ideas on how to build a different looking one. I'm looking for anything that might give me some ideas, either concept pics, current models, conversions or whatever you might be willing to offer me.

Look forward to some plans...

what do you not like about the gw ones? (Apart from the price)

The Imperium of Man is able to traverse the Warp with difficulty when their Emperor concentrates from his golden life support machine and lights the way. Unfortunately, because the Emperor has the attention span of the average 5-year-old Pokemon fanboy, this means that many an unfortunate Imperial ship has had the WTF WHERE'D THE LIGHTS GO experience, which in the Warp is invariably fatal.

I used ork meganob body's imperial guard heavy weapons and a bit of green stuff. works like a treat and is a bit cheaper

I converted them out Chaos terminators and bits from the apocalypse sprue that came with you vehicles. Plus some green stuff and random weapons I found about in a pile of stuff. Some Epic stuff.

Woot.

But yeah, 5 for 50 or so bucks. And lots of Extra bits.

if i had the money, i would buy the AoBR termies ( cheap and plastic ) and look around for spare IG weapon team bits
i know most IG players have tons of it left over since they only choose one out of .... 4-5 weapons.

and cover the rest with GS

Funny you should ask; I just converted the current models into a more fitting mini. See pics here

Those are great Obliterators BDJV. I'm a particular fan of the arms. Much better than the ones on the current models. Those look like stuck on weapons bits while yours have that nice morphed weapon appearance. Great job!

Rather than making a model that can morph a variety of weapons, why not make a model with one weapon with a lot of different settings?

For instance, the Weirding Modules from the Dune movie can be used to shatter bones, puncture organs, concussivly strike, or ignite on fire a human target depending on the setting (words) used.

The simplest 40K equivalent would be a huge sonic weapon, but just about any energy weapon conversion could work so long as it didn't look like any of GW's weaponry.

Another alternative would be a kind of rocket launcher with a lot of different kinds of ammo. You would need some sort of oversized selection drum with the different rockets showing through but if you did it it would work.

Another alternative would be some sort of crystal based weapon, like a larger version of the callidus pistol. Crystals are deceptively easy to carve out of any leftover sprue bit, and since it doesn't resemble any of the GW guns, it can be whatever you say it is.

Man, that's the joy of Anime! To revel in the complete and utter wastefullness of making an unstoppable nuclear-powered combat andriod in the shape of a cute little girl, who has the ability to fall in love and wears an enormous bow in her hair.

Hey Lemmingspawn.

I also didn't like the price of the Oblits. I got bored with the free AoBR termie we got in white dwarf and greenstuffed the hell out of it, while putting on random bitz (Which after your Iron Warriors on WAU, you should have plenty of ).

Another option I have seen, that was pretty cool was Spawn with weapons greenstuffed on, but they would look a bit organic for IW

Yeah it's not that I don't like the price - I just don't like the models. They don't do it for me...

Thanks for the ideas - the multi weapon settings are pretty cool sounding - I might have a play with that. Maybe even a psychic style idea...I was thinking of making up some thousand sons so that could work with that idea, making the 1k sons the linking units.

I had some luck using chaos spawn and spare weapons from the robostruct game.

http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/655-.html?w=600

For my bezerker army I'm going to try:
Black reach termi without the front plate
Green stuff to fill in the body
Chaos term head
Chaos marauder shield for front armor
nid arms for weapons and power fist
extra heavy weapons on the shoulders

Not cheap or easy unless you happen to have those bitz lying around (I do)

I remember there used to be some "smaller than dreadnought" type of robots in 40k, my friend had lots of them for chaos marines.
I didnt like the models back then and Im pretty sure I wouldnt like em now, but the idea of replacing obliterators (that I dislike even more) with some sort of big robots would be cool.
The biggest issue with oblis is the look ofc, but I dislike the "morphing" allmost as much - with a robot you could just have lots of different weps on the chassis (like mechs from battletech universe, only smaller)

What about kind of returning to the original Obliterator models which had weapons grow out of their entire bodies, not just their arms. You could make two "tall" versions of Terminators who have weapons morphing out of their entire body.

If you were -really- looking to create a very different Oblit, you could always use the daemon engine concept that ended up being the Soul Grinder...

Of course, they would have to be smaller to be functional in game, but this hasnt stopped you in the past

Malfred: Terminator Armor has always had room for extra boobage.
Drake_Marcus: It's true- that's why the Space Wolves love termie armour so much. The whole "bear" thing they've got going on is just a thinly veiled cover-up of their huge, hairy cleavage.

Woah, blinky! That's cool - nice concept pic! Now that is something I wouldn't mind using Sorta like a chaos answer to the Tyranid Biovore

Another thought I had - then forget - then remembered - but forgot again - but now remembered - is I wish there was some way I could work it out to make the thing like the Terminatrix out of terminator 3 and make it convincing. And male... ... I just think that to me is a better path to follow - she just formed whatever she wanted out of her body, and also had the metal core chassis. But I have NOOOOO idea how I would do that one convincingly...

Innom - those smaller than dreadnought robots were the old dreads. When I first saw them I was 14. At that age I loved them but now I see them they suck...there was a guy at a tourney I went to that had a number of them in his army...and they sucked even more IRL...

A VAN DOWN BY THE RIVER!

Try making them a different shape, maybe non-humanoid. Also try cramming all the guns in their faces istead of their arms.

I dunno, it could be kinda cool.

I also despise the GW Obliterator models. Can't stand the old ones either. I dunno they always looked kinda like a heap of garbage to me. Not to mention they come with weapons that the Obliterators can no longer shoot.

I converted my Iron Warrior Obliterators from AT-43 Red Blok walkers. The idea being that these are little armoured suits that are equipped with a vast array of different weapons.

These guys are a bit bulkier than the standard GW models, but that just makes it harder for me to get a cover save for them, so meh.

My two cents: you could create obliterators that overall blur the line between man and machine as opposed to the current mini's which always gave me the impression of chaos terminators with a bunch of barrels for hands. What I mean is go for an appearance that mimics human form but at the same time is clearly mechanical, kind of like the evas from Neon Genesis Evangelion. Although those are admittedly slender for anything even close to a chaos marine perhaps the pics will give you an idea:

I hope that helps, I'm not sure I did much of a job conveying the idea but I look forward to your future work. I just finished looking through your iron warriors thread and it was some really inspirational stuff, keep it up!

<Rarity> I am not whining, I am complaining! Do you want to hear whining?

Thiiis is whiiiiining! Oooo, this mini is too expeennsive! I'm' going brrookee! Can't you make it cheaper? Oh, it's resin and not metal anymore! Why didn't you take it off the sprue first? That's gonna leave a pour spout, and the FLGS is so far away, WHY DO I HAVE TO SUPPORT IIIIIIIT?! </Rairty>

ugh...I just saw some really nice iron warriors obliterators converted from terminators on ebay...three squads, marked by the weapon they were modeled with, plasma cannon, lascannon or multimelta...looked pretty nice painted, not exactly a far out conversion but it worked well for iron warriors.

Thanks guys - a lot of cool thoughts and ideas here. I shall be toying with the concepts very soon once my three stompas are done then it's onto the Iron Warriors again - I have a walking vindi, a tank vindi, several termies and troops, the walking Baneblade concept to build and now the obliterators.

Wish me luck

Just since nobody's mentioned it it seems, take a look at the regular Space Marine Techmarines, -lots of over done weaponry mounts...
