It's still the 24th here. But I'm getting some stuff today! Girlfriend is out of town on Christmas to be with her family in Tennessee, I hope she was paying attention all year and is getting me warhams. I'll give a report tonight when we exchange gifts.

I got nothing because I am in Japan.

However I can go out shopping (and already have done.) I gave my daughter Animal Crossing Big City UK version for Christmas -- of course it won't work on her Japanese Wii (Thanks a bunch, Nintendo!) So I went out and bought the Japanese version.

KFC for lunch because they don't have turkey in Japan.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

I got...

Fudge (will give to wife as I get sick if I eat it)
1 ticket to gold class movie (basically a cinema with super-enormous comfortable recliner chairs and alcohol)
2 tickets to regular movie sessions
Lynx smelly stuff
A book
$200 cash money ($100 will go to clothes and $100 to GW books and minis)
1 year's subscripton to White Dwarf

RANT MODE: A big thanks to the dopes at GWOZ for sending the January issue out so it would arrive Christmas eve so I would find it in the mail, ruining my wife's surprise after she was assured it would not be sent until after Christmas. She was not amused.

Still no signs of baby being pushed out of my wife.

Only for the purpose of selling stuff. For example, Christmas cake.

Christmas Eve is "traditionally" a time for young lovers, so all the restaurants and the sparkly illumination areas are full of romantic couples, as are the love hotels later in the evening if things go well for the boyfriends.

Forever alone

My family chooses to keep things relatively light present-wise. I got:

-Warriors of Chaos army book
-A box of Chaos Knights
-clothes...
-a hat... that's mosquito-proof. That should save me some suffering when camping in summer.
-$80 cash money, $50 from Grandad and $30 from my mum's partner.
-Probably getting more cash from my aunt.
-Two gift cards for two different bookshops.

Christmas lunch was basically a take-what-you-want mini-buffet. Had duck with Orange sauce and I got a marzipan and chocolate dreadnought, moulded off my friend's one. Pure win.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I got three iou's for Battlewagons, a dvd of the Dark Knight and a really ugly 50's style shirt from my mom. She thinks that because I listen to death metal that means I'm a goth. (She's heard me deliver enough verbal abuse to know that I am incapable of feeling sorry for myself, but that's family for ya.)
Merry Orkmas!

I am both selfish and chaotic. I value self-gratification and control; I want to have things my way, preferably now. At best, I'm entertaining and surprising; at worst, I'm hedonistic and violent.

I opened my stocking (A lot of Chocolate) and gave my mother her gift, Sean White Snowboarding. She's been talking about it a lot "All the games you play are violent! Why can't you get something like Sean White so I can play something too?". Now we're all yelling at each other cleaning the house waiting for the arrival of the rest of the family. It's a nuclear meltdown in here, but hey. That's Christmas for ya.

My parents got me a lovely collected edition of the complete Sherlock Holmes with the original illustrations, very happy. My mam also got me a bunch of books on the science curriculum over here to help me prepare for looking for work as a teacher.

We had a lovely christmas dinner (turkey stuffed with duck!) and then the traditional post dinner slagging match. Now we're off to see my various uncles and drink and make merry.
Have a great Christmas everyone.

Piercing the heavens

As usual, the best and most surprising gifts came from my brother. A T-Shirt with "choose your weapons" written on it (like the shirt with dice on it, which you might know) and 4 stylized pictures of a Bo, 2 Sais, a Nunchkuck and a pair of Katanas. Coolest. Shirt. Ever.

He also got me a box with a lot of different 40k sprues in it, because I told him I needed stuff for Ork bikes.

Besides that, I got a few books and the stuff I wrote on my wishlist: videogames, rulebook, miniatures. You know, the usual.

I had a good haul with about 40 vallejo paints (coming close to rounding out the model colour collection now), a 7 string ibanez guitar, a new paint carousel (as I filled the first one up), Ostfront and Afrika flames of war books, a 32GB flash drive, some dremel bits and loads of chocolate. Christmas dinner was very good (my wife's first time preparing it), and I butchered the turkey trying to carve it (also first time). All went well until we went to wash up, when the waste disposal in our brand new kitchen decided to unhook itself from the sink, causing sprout infested water to flood a quarter of the kitchen and get behind all the counters and utilities. Nice! Now we have no useable utilities in the kitchen until we get a plumber in to sort it all out, and all the dishes, glasses and cutlery are filthy and will be for a couple of days

Check out our new, fully plastic tabletop wargame - Maelstrom's Edge, made by Dakka!

Nice score on the axe! My guitarist friends swear by their 7-string Prestige RGs...

I got a new briefcase for work, a single pair of underwear (which I'm currently riding, ver' comfortable), some chocolate-coated coffee beans (locally produced - Byron Bay stinks but the food isn't bad! Note that I live NEAR, not in, that hellhole), a t-shirt, a gift voucher for Bunnings Warehouse (Aus' hardware monopoly franchise) and a lamp.
Lots of great food on the day; salmon steak with capers/fennel, roast lamb, chicken was pretty great (I worked at KFC long ago, and normally can't handle the bird), huge salads, piles of drink... bagged some nice eggplants from my partner's mother's garden as well.

My parents in Sydney have told me to bring an empty bag when I visit just after New Years.
This usually means they haven't gotten me anything - yet.

I was working flat-out on the eve, doing my Dell Warranty rounds (I cover a good thousand square kilometres, damn this country!) but managed to score a home-made bookmark from a nice old lady, and a home-made blueberry tart from a German family.

Oh, and Happy Boxing Day.

Kids woke up at grandmas'. Actually, we woke them up b/c they are some sleepin bastards once you can get them to it. Managed to get the little one up in a great mood, no small trick. They tore through the presents and promptly started playing with each others stuff. Go figure. Older one got "Battlegrounds", a lo-end 40k type game with a fantasy flip to it. Dunno where that one showed up from, but the kid adores it. Great grands came over and we all had lunch, truly good spiral cut honey ham (make ya slap yo mama!) took pride of place. Took the wife on a vacation earlier in december, that was her gift. So she sent me laptop shopping.

Typing this on my new Qosmio. It's a friggin beast. With the bluetooth stereo headphones, I can't lose. Damn things work with my cell phone as well, so it doubles as my MP3 player now.

Bu the best gift by far for everyone (except the 2 year old who is only concerned with who will be next to do his bidding!) was just me being there. I've had to miss a few Christmases, and it's become a real point of contention. That, and I had to ship out on a job on the 18th only to suprise turn right around for home on the 19th. All the capitalist rah-rah aside, we were just glad to have everyone together.

-$500 cash money (150 from mom, 300 from dad, 50 from grandpa)
-A care package to take back to Kentucky with me, though I can't bring any of it on the plane, go figure.
-The Band of Brothers box set from my stepbrother
-An army bear, the Gaunt's Ghosts Omnibus, and a DVD from my girlfriend
-And most importantly I got a "yes" when I asked my girlfriend if she'd marry me.

Aww congratulations mate!
I hid my AOBR marines until now because I knew I wasn't gonna get any minis. I'm painting them now in my parent's sitting room so it feels like a proper christmas.
I like the models. Not much of a space marine fan but the models are good enough I might make a small Crimson Fist force when I get back on my feet.
