Hi, Im angry about my High Elves

Firstly I've really lost interest in them for 3 reasons.

Firstly: I cant come up with my "own" colour scheme for them I cant do the red or green since 4 people at my hobby club also have them and I like the blue one the most but I want something different, cause I want to paint my High Elves to a very high standard.

Secondly: I assembled all of my High Elves exept the last one which I lost his legs for, my hobby store cleaned out all of the spare bitz 2 days ago and that would mean I have to order a new $50 box in so out of like 50 Bitz I;'lle only need the 2 legs, and I suck at greenstuff so that option is out.

Thirdly: Plus the High Elves are really posh and over confident and I'm considering the Beasts of Chaos which would be my 7th army under 1000pts.

Please help Im extremely fustrated about this.

Nice avatar. Least you have a reply now.

Seriously, sounds like the big thing you need is to start and finish an army. Maybe stop looking for the "perfect" force and perfect one of the ones you have? I'd pick one or two of the 7 you have, and get rid of the others. Focus on one army. Quit oscillating between armies. I know this is phrased a bit blunt, but only because I did the same thing 15 years ago when I started. Now, I have several armies that are fieldable, but they all need paint and none is "complete".

Learn from my mistakes, kid.

As far as the high elf with no legs, I see two options.
1. battle damage? maybe the poor feth caught a cannonball to the midsection.
2. run without the dude.

As for a color scheme, what about trying a red, oranage, yellow and white scheme?
It would look very striking and not many people will have done something like it.

I'm a big stickler for original color schemes. Sometimes I'll get going on a scheme and wonder what the heck am I thinking, but I stick with it and usually have something very unique that gets a lot of oohs and ahhs on the table.
I did my Dwarfs in a mostly bright blue color and the army gets a lot of compliments.

Ironbreakers with blue armor are pretty cool if I dont say so myself.

1. Go with a lylac purple, it looks great on Elves and more graceful races. Plus it takes a real man to run a pink or purple army.

2. what kind of legs do you need? you can find any legs you want for under a couple bucks on ebay:

http://shop.ebay.com/items/?_nkw=high+elf+legs&_sacat=0&_fromfsb=&_trksid=m270.l1313&_odkw=silver+helm+legs&_osacat=0

3. Sell or trade off all of your smaller armies for one that you like to paint / play. You will be much happier if you can play a 2k point game (lords add a lot to the game).

Good luck kid.

Grizgrin does offer some really good advice. I play 40k myself and started w/ the Dark Eldar and only focused on them for years and years. Once I got them to 3000pts or so, and had few units to make for them, I decided on WitchHunters. I had to detoured around it when I inherited a Chaos Word Bearer army, yeah..inherited means what ya think, and I finished up that army with a ton of models my cousin was never able to finish. So now, it'll be SoB on the front burner again.

or you can try for a dark but regal look for your High Elf army.

try replacing all the silvers with black.

and use gold for the trimming and details.

cloth can still be white.

it'll be incredible looking i guarantee it.

Having lots of armies that are not finished can lead to having lost of miniatures that you just stand there and glare at. At least try and make sure they can ally with each other. I know what you mean, though about the High Elves. The only color scheme GW ever shows them in that that boring white look. I would recommend reading the fluff in the High Elves army book and picking something that appeals to you in that respect, then using whatever colors they are associated with.

Have you called GW and told them you're missing legs to your kit? I haven't had to call for YEARS but they used to be really good about replacing lost bits.

EDIT: A lot of people who view forums are lurkers. Don't get discouraged when you get a lot of views and no responses Other times, maybe they just have no advice...

Maybe you could replace the missing models with a unit filler like a statue or one of your favourite enemies being butcherd or something... looks cool and you wont miss the 2 elves...

The eldar are depicted in loodsa colour maybe some sceme would fit high elves as well

Firstly... you said "Firstly" twice.

Just out of curiousity, are you going to post about these High Elves and the missing legs EVERY two days, or are you going to mix it up a little so as to not become predictable?

Also, is your cousin 12 or 10? You said both in your thread two days ago...

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

You have six armies under a thousand points? Your profile mentions you started wargaming THIS YEAR!

I mean, that could be a single box set for each army in question, but seriously... I've never advocated ADD before... look, would you please list your armies and composition?

the thing about starting warhammer at a young age is, its hard to separate between knowing what they want.

do they realize its a fine hobby or do they just want something that looks cool at the equivalent of toys.

its easily discouraging how the new paintings will not look as good as prepainted toys, and they certainly wont be as tough built as toys.

so i dunno :/ i would have 2nd thoughts about encouraging anyone below 12 to start that hobby
( not saying there isnt many great young gamers, i meant on the safe side )

I dont see why you un-encourage people under 12, we had a 10 year old get to the regional under 18's medium miniature this year.

Im good at painting and moddelling too I just make bad decisions.

PS. Is the Bitz barn a good place to buy warhammer bitz?

I started when I was around tghat age, but my modle purchases were very slow because I didn't have much income. I think it's good to take your time with purchases, even if your folks would happily get you more stuff. That way you'll be much less stressed out.
For paintjobs for your Elves, I think if you went for a darker blue shade on them they could still look really good and not similar to your friends ones. Check out the difference between Crimson Fists and Ultramarines for example: Both blue, but very distinct. Mordian Blue and Regal blue as a highlight would be very different to Ultramarines Blue with Enchanted Blue highlights.

As for your problems with the High Elf background, not all high elves are like that. Dan Abnett had a great story about a high elf who overcame his arrogance and became a great hero. It's an excellent story and you could make a similar story for your heroes. GW try and put flaws into each of their races- Empire are zealots, Brettonians are classist, Wood Elves are Xenophobic, Orcs are anarchic, Dwarves are slow to change, Lizardmen are unemotional. The best army concepts accept the flaw but have heroes who work to overcome it.
Good luck anyway. (Also, best to wait a day or so for a reply on these forums, some of us like to wander away and have a bit of a think before replying)

the main thing about bitz ( also how some people can make a buisness out of it )
is the bitz by itself is very over priced. the price i see them listed in their
catalogue for individual bit is around 5x the amount from a normal box at -30% off

BUT not saying thats a rip off no. it all comes down what do you need,
if you really really only need 2 pairs of legs, then it cant be helped, you have to pay the heavy price.

but if you know anyone that make good use of a full box with 2 legs missing you can buy stuff for 30% off
and sell the rest to the person?

so is the price good? no its really expensive.
but is it justified? i believe yes.

just how you want to look at it.

High Elves are NOT arrogant imo. They are very wise and have sacrificed countless of their race many many times to save the warhammer world from chaos.

does the other ignorant race know whats going on? no
they abuse the flow of magic despite Elf's warnings.

Example would be like parents telling their children to stop playing with matches and burning the house down, and no one listens and the house gets burnt down every year.

very WTF indeed , cant blame the Elves to react that way.

Yeah, that's the good side to the Elves, but they are still a little arrogant. But that would be an excellent army concept for High Elves- a hero and his followers dedicated to preventing the abuse of magic by other races wizards strengthening the foothold of chaos in the world. I used a similar background for my old Lizardman army, I had an Old One marked Skink priest being sent visions which he interpretted to intercede in the world, directing his scar veteran servant to cleave him a path.

I got my bitz from the Bitz barn and managed to sell all 4 of my races exept my 3 favourites [Empire, Lizardmen and High Elves] now I have some cash which I'lle save. Im going to do the High Elves until I have a good 2000pts force then do the Empire and Lizardmen later this year.

I'd say good picks on the ones you kept. Very different playing armies, each of them, with a lot of options.

You have chosen wisely.

And I don't think people were trying to discourage you. There's an etiquette to being in a wargaming community, both online and IRL. Learning it can be a little uncomfortable at times, but you will experience the same discomfort learning the same things relevant to ANY community you join.

I would say that you should always, as a last resort, follow your own judgement regarding your hobby; ettiquette or no; however giving that advice to a guy with a chimp in a pink tee firing a beretta 9 as an avatar is a bit redundant, me thinks. I'd say you are doing fine.

Coming up with a cool color scheme is one of the fun things about a new army, it took me awhile to figure one out for my HE. I like the blue also but put orange accents on them for a different touch. I think alot of colors would look good on HE, like green and white, purple, etc. Heres a pic of my only completely finished unit so far.

I know what you mean about getting frustrated. I figure there are two ways to make a warhammer army.
A. Buy units 1 at a time and complete them before getting more This is how I did my space marine army and it worked quite well, never getting more than 1 or 2 squads ahead of myself.

B. Buy a load of loot to make a whole army at once and stare at it for 6 months while getting frustrated that nothing is getting done fast enough. This is how I am doing my HE and probably how most in the hobby operate.

I think plan A is better( my wife does too, she doesnt like boxes and sprues of little elf men all over the computer room)
