OK I am a little confused here.

- No core makeup of an army?
- Good vs Evil...? Does that mean I can choose any models from one side to make up an army?
- Source books and Legions of Middle earth. Do I need both?

I am looking to get a decent sized Evil army, based around The Mumak which its occupants for a small Harad alliance to a Witch King on Fell Beast led Mordor force.

Any tips for collecting the Army?

Orkses is never defeated in battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fighting so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!

So, first of all you have to buy Legions of Middle earth. And than you can make an army by chosing 2 army lists that can work together. Like The tower of Ectelion and the Fiefdoms.
Harad and the witch king can work together^^
But you must have a harad leader to lead your harad force.
Oh jeah, how many points do you want to make?

Hope it helps.

Legions of Middle Earth has amry lists for every faction with points values, but no stats. The stats are spread around a few locations. A lot of them, including mordor and harad, are in the main rulebook. You can build a nice force from these lists.
If you want more specific stats and rules for things like Shades, Morgul Stalkers and named Haradrim characters, you might want to pick up the relevant supplements which go into detail about them and also provide terrain building and scenarios.
It's an odd system but I've got a whole bunch of Evil stuff and the fellowship and I've only had to buy Mines of Moria (the starter box) and the Khazadum supplement. For your army you could easily get by with just a rulebook.

Its very important that you go for the miniatures which you like the look of first and then build an army around them. The mini rulebook with Mines OF Moria more or less covers all of the miniatures however, as someone pointed out, certain miniatures are kept to the source books.

Which army are you thinking of collecting?
