So, I don't know what points cost the game will be yet, but it'll be at least 5000pts/side. I'm taking on my two buddies, they're playing Empire and Daemonic Legions, I'm taking High Elves. I also dont know what my list is yet.

I'm not sure how I should approach this, or what I should take. I have at least one unit of everything in the High Elf range. I've already posted a *rough* estimate of what I have at my disposal models wise on the WHFB Army List board for reference. I've reproduced that here for ease. I'm not sure how I should approach the game itself, strategically. Obviously we dont know what the mission would be, either. The Empire player has almost everything in the model range, as does the Daemonic Legions player (the Daemon player has a tendancy t favour Khorne, with his unit of 8 Bloodcrushers), but the Empire player may be able to talk some sense into him. Who knows? So basically, given my potential units below, what sort of approach should I take while in game?

I'm fairly sure that's everything I own.

First off make sure magic is capped at a reasonable level. It quickly gets out of hand, especially with Tzeentch DL.

Tyrion and 2 lords on dragons combocharging should smash that bloodcrusher unit without breaking a sweat.

Teclis is essential in large scale games. He is super awesome but you struggle to fit in the rest of the army in smaller games.

Eltharion on foot is another great character. Mage, great fighter, ward save.

Make 1 level 2 mage carry staff of sorcery to get +2 dispel.
Rest of them carry dispel scrolls.

I could be wrong, but isn't the fact that GW brought back Eltharion the Grim (mounted on Griffon) mean that the Eltharion on foot model is "With opponents' permission only"?

I actually have 6 mages---3 on foot, 2 mounted, 1 Teclis. hehehe...

I ran some numbers quickly and Its either Tyrion (almost indestructable) and a lord on dragon or 2 lords on dragons (the second lord gets heaps more attacks)

Problem is there is so much good stuff in the characters you quickly run out of army.

The eltharion model on foot is useable. Its what he is and they give rules for him on foot.

where do they give rules for him on foot? the old WD where they gave rules for him and Malus Darkblade? Those rules would have been overidden by the new HE book and new edition of Warhammer.

I'm currently looking at Tyrion, Teclis, 2 Lords on Dragons, 2 nobles, 3 mages and a dragon mage. a bit much in characters, eh?

In his bestiary page Pg 69 HE book: Eltharion may ride his griffon, Stormwing.

Then in the army list on page 90 his listing has 'May ride Stormwing 205 points'

So you can take him on foot.
There is an official Eltharion on foot model.
It would look slowed if you took the mtd eltharion and stuck him on a 20mm base...
