I have a quistion that I really need help with. I am currently painting Sm, and I wandering, is it beter to paint with just the head, body and legs? or how the eavy metal team suggests, which is the body, head, legs, AND arms. I find it hard to get my basecoat underneath the arms if they are done, and I hate painting on the sprues because i have to take care of the mold lines. please help a clue less noob!

If a model is holding a gun across it's chest (as most are), it usually makes sense to do the legs, head, and torso, then put the arms on, and do the arms/anything else that needs to be touched up.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

i usally do them all on the sprue still. then i just sand off the spots that need to be glued together. no problems with not covering everything.

Well I usually paint after it's fully assembled... Anything you can't reach with spray primer probably won't be visible in the first place.

For plastic models, I assemble(use a very small amount of glue), prime, then rip the arms off is they're in the way, and then paint. The bond with model glue is usually weak enough to easily come off, and it just feels good. Makes it easier to keep everything organized, IMO.

im always confused when people paint on the sprue, then glue them after painted.

what kind of glue do you guys use? my plastic cement or zap a gap always turn into black goo without any sticky elements left when they touch paint.

I ignore anything I can't reach with a brush or spray, though I do make sure
to spray at an upwards angle before I spray regular. That's usually enough
to get gaps.

I sometimes touch up with brush on for missed spots.

painting something you cant see or something you have to angle up to actually see is not rewarding at all, and unnoticeable. which basically means, it aint worth the effort.

if they're for gaming only just spray when it's all together. also as mentioned previously flip the models around (on their sides, backs etc) to be able to spray from all angles - only remember to let each angle dry completely before the flip & also, for some reason, spray paint on card board (if you are using this to rest the minis on while spraying) tends to dry a little slower - there's nothing worse than resting a mini on its side when the paint on whatever your spraying on is still wet!

I don't have the largest amount of experience under my belt, but what I did was fully glue the head, torso, and legs together, and cheaply pin the arms in place. And glued the bolter to the left hand of all the appropriate models. Anybody with a gun running across their torso, I just popped off the left arm, and use the tiny bit of paper clip to hold when painting. Hope this helps!

If you ask me, the best thing to do is to glue everyting together and paint behind the gun with a very thin brush. pinning, painting on the sprue..... its just not worth it. my models look fine the way i do 'em.

Yeah, I just assemble the whole thing and undercoat away. As mentioned, if you can't reach it with your brush it's not too much of an issue. This is, of course, a lot easier with black undercoat - it's a lot more forgiving.

First off, for SM, what a lot of people do is if you have a Space Marine holding a boltgun, prime the figure, and then cut the Bolter off at the hand. You can then glue it back on once you've finished painting everything you can't reach otherwise, and touch it up with some paint.

Secondly, when you prime, try flipping over the model and priming all of the missed areas once you're done. This usually requires about three separate primings.

The way I do marines is with figure assembled but not with
gun or backpack attached. The thing to take into account
is that glue hates paint,so ideally you really want to
have as much of the gluing done pre-undercoat.

At first I was made to wonder, "I know that people CAN and DO paint without using their arms, but if arms are an option for you, why would you paint using your feet, mouth, or nethers?"

Then I just wondered, "Did the 'Eavy Metal team try painting without their arms verses with their arms just to make sure...?"
