Well, as per the suggestion of the infinite wisdom of the dakka forums, sooner or later, I'll be adding some more boyz to my army of orks. And, well, quite frankly, after 80 more of them, I don't think I could ever paint another one. So, I was kind of thinking, could I just have a small mercenary band of kroot as a unit of say... ard'boyz? There's nothing that says Kroot mercenaries hold grudges against orks, and being with a constantly fighting race oughta do some good for a race that gets its gains by feeding. Besides, I just love the appearance and style of kroot.

But would you find that acceptable, to play against someone proxying some kroot?

just make sure in the beggining of the game they are ard boyz. and avoid using the same model for a diffrent unit. other than that its completely fine.

I'd be down with it, in the old Kroot Merc list it had kroot who had eaten too many orcs and they had the same toughness for it, and were immune to instant death. Plus I beleive there was a peice of fluff there that said they did indeed fight for orcs.

Yeah, I read the codex, the chapter approved one. It's got some good ideas, but it's just way too badly done to be taken seriously. Which is a shame, as I absolutely LOVE kroot. The entire idea of them, I just love it. Also read that other codex by Andy Hoare and Kompletelykroot, and it's pretty cool, but lacks a lot of polish, and obviously isn't official.

Sure, it's just an excuse to buy some kroot later, but dammit, I love them!

Kroot are great models, but unless you do a bunch of conversion work, people will initially expect them to be S4 T3 instead of S3 T4.

If genestealer cult (Dakka's own Gorgon) can be used as orks at the Baltimore GT, and be the featured army, then you should have no problem with 'counts as' models.

Ork and kroot are alike in every way. There even was a kroot card in the old 40k ccg

Well, that's good to know. Looks like there's hope for my sanity after all.

Besides, since my warband worships Mork exclusivly, negotiating with other races would only be the kunnin' thing to do.

Yeah Kroot drive warspheres made of scrap metal welded together into space. They'd be down with hangin' with orks.

I would probably do Ogryn before Kroot.

True I would do orgyns with orks first because in the old fluff they recognized ogryns as being orky so they had large numbers of them. If you don't believe me grab a copy of battle for armageddon's expanion chaos attacks and look in the blood axe section

Yeah, but Ogryn are too expensive, too ugly, and too useless

Besides, Kroot look like rockers. They'd be the best headbangers EVER... next to a wierdboy.

Don't see a problem with the 'counts as', as long as it's clear to your opponent and/or a tourny organizer, if applicable.

Kroot, while not much more original than anything else GW has created, were a neat race and really the first different, space opera/sci-fantasy idea they'd had for 40k in a long time (unlike the transposing of Tolkienesque fantasy races to outer space).

The old CA Kroot rules were fine for 3rd ed. but didn't age real well since then.

Frankly, it's nice to have some diversity in an army anyway, and you could always use the kroot for Killteam or the like (or, *cough* GASLIGHT/Pulp gaming *cough*).

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

Go with Kroot. If they ever wise up and decide to make Kroot an official army again and make tons(X2) of moneys then you'll be all ready to go.

The Kroot kit is awesome(besides the hands attached to guns issue). If Kroot were an official stand alone army again I'd be all over it.

Dakka. You need more of it. No exceptions.

I think using your Kroot models to count as 'Ard Boyz or Shoota boyz would work really well. Why not? Have at least a bit of green tint to their skin and you're good to go.
