I'm looking to create objective markers for my Imperial Guard army... and I'm simply curious as to what size round bases you typically use for your objective markers...

Thoughts?

Feel free to show off your work as well... I'm looking to use one ammo dump... maybe included an injured Cadian (have two from the metal command box) and a few other thoughts.

The ones they gave away at the US GTs were standard base size, ie 20mm rounds. I use termie bases when building my own.

do you measure from the center of the base for contesting, or the edge.

This is also a question.

I measure from the edge

I measure from the edge... and typically I use the 25mm bases... but that doesn't give many 'options' in making them look cool... but the ones I used are simple ones for my Tyranids.

However... I was considering using the larger 40mm bases or even the harder to find 60mm bases to make them a little spiffier.

We've always used the edges.

I use the edge and a 40mm round. As long as all parties agree and know where to measure from it should be OK.

The 40mm is big enough to make a cool little tableau but not too big. I'll post some pics later when I finish painting them!

most people use the edge (that way you dont have to be on the objective marker) be careful with big elaborate markers they just get in the way. one of the better objective markers ive seen (and use) are simple regular bases with a banner (you know all the ones you get with your models but no one ever uses because they break off too easy) paint em up base them and your good to go.

I did termie bases before objectives were a big thing. I took some spare IG weapons to make them, figured it'd cool to have something more than a flag, but flags work.

I think 40mm is a good size for an objective - large enough to be clearly visible and do some modelling, without being so large as to be obnoxious.

Several tournaments here ask that players have several markers on 40mm bases, and one on a 60mm base. Naturally, the 60mm presents far greater scope for mini-dioramas, but neither of them have to be such.

My 40s are just SM banners on rockpiles (the banners that just about every SM box set comes with) or small eldar bits and bobs. The 60 is a (fallen) chapter standard for my marines, and a small eldar shrine for my eldar.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
