Alright, I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to making a list. I keep finding myself picking things that I think look cool. Problem is, I think pretty much ALL of the SM things look cool, so this changes on a day to day basis. I'm basically trying to make up a really strong list for small games (1000 point max) with the Blood Angels codex.

I'm kinda just looking for some pointers on where I should start off with this. I'm thinking a single tactical squads, or maybe 2 5 man squads, a good helping of assault squads, a baal predator, and a Lemartes, but I want to get the absolute biggest bang for my buck, so anyone with suggestions please go ahead and post em.

Or for some more direct one on one coaching, hit me up on AIM at CENArtDamage

Lemartes

2 fat assault squads with fists on the sarge

one baal pred

spend the remaining points on more Death company with jump packs.

use the baal to shield your assault squads (giving 4+ save at best) as you close. toss the assault squads on his mediocre support squads to wipe them fast, drop the death company on his nastiest unit.

never...

NEVER break the assault squads down into combat squads.

My only worry is, how does that fair with having only two scoring units in the entire army? My original idea was something a lot more like this...

Alright, I just wasn't happy with my old list. I'm trying to cheese this list out as much as I possibly can, and I'm having some issues, so here is my newest iteration of the list.

Lemartes - 125
DC of 4 with JP - 20
RAS with PF - 165
RAS with PF - 165
RAS with PF - 165
VAS 2 w/ dual lightning claws, 1 w/ melta gun - 210
Baal Predator w/ side-sponsons - 125
Dreadnaught - 125

Because that gives me a lot more flexibility. Three scoring units, 5 jump infantry units zooming around, and a dreadnaught and predator for heavy fire support. Also, your list has very few ways of dealing with tanks...

you are talking about 1000 pts. tanks are generally a non-issue there. Not many people are going to max out armor when they are usually haing to spend half their points on the required HQ+2 troops.

IMO if you are having to take assault squads as 5 man squads, just leave them at home. more than 2 casualties makes them practically useless.

Rending was nerfed in 5th ed, but it wasnt changed as far as armor penetraion, so the DC and baal are still decent at cracking the majority of tanks you are going to encounter at this point level. Additionally, 1000 pts is awfully small to expect more than 2 scoring units. They make up for their numbers with mobility.

Well thanks for explaining that. So, that leaves me with a 7 man death company and I think 15 points spare. That sound about right?

I find that tactical squads are much better at holding objectives as compared to assault squads.
